Thousands of people are expected to travel to the Sydney CBD this Anzac Day.

The Dawn Service will be held in Martin Place from 4.20am to 5.20am. The Anzac Day March will commence at 9am and travel along Elizabeth Street. Major road closures and parking restrictions will be in place for most of the day so participants and spectators are encouraged to plan ahead and consider all of the available travel options.

  • Public transport is the best way to get to the CBD with several transport hubs in close distance of Anzac Day commemorations.
  • Travel on public transport is free for veterans and their families on Saturday 25 April 2026. See below for more details.
  • Additional early-morning transport services will run to help get you to Martin Place in time for the Dawn Service. Plenty of services will run throughout the day to get you to vantage points along the March route and home again.
  • Roads will close from 1am around Martin Place for the Dawn Service. Macquarie Street will also be closed north of Albert Street from midnight until 8am.
  • Major road closures will be in place from 6am along and around the March route on Elizabeth Street. Designated pedestrian crossings will be maintained on Elizabeth Street at Park Street and Hunter Street, and at underground crossings at Bathurst Street, Museum Station and Martin Place Station.
  • Some buses in the CBD will use different routes and stops while road closures are in place. Plan ahead to see if your route is affected.
  • Light Rail services will not run between Town Hall and Circular Quay from first service until 6.15am while the Dawn Service is underway, and from 12.30pm until 1.30pm while the Mass Pipe Band travels along George Street.
  • Motorists should avoid unnecessary travel through the Sydney CBD on Anzac Day as traffic will be heavy on detour routes.
  • Special event clearway parking restrictions will be in place on roads in the CBD and some car parks will not be accessible while roads are closed. If you have to drive, it is essential you plan ahead and check signs carefully when parking to avoid being towed.
  • Visit livetraffic.com for the most up-to-date information on road closures and parking restrictions on Anzac Day.

Car park & driveway restrictions

NSW Police will enforce strict restrictions on vehicle movements within the road closure footprint to ensure the safety of the general public and event participants. This includes vehicles exiting private or commercial driveways and car parks. Barriers will be in place to enforce restrictions and there will be no managed vehicle access. Please note that it is a finable offence to drive on or exit a driveway onto a closed road unless authorised by NSW Police or approved personnel.

If your property is located on a closed road, access on-foot will be maintained for residents, hotel guests and delivery services only. Vehicle pick-ups and drop-offs are to be organised on roads outside of the closure footprint.

For detailed road closure information including maps as well real-time updates on traffic conditions, visit Live Traffic NSW or download a real-time traffic app.

If you're planning on driving and parking in the Sydney CBD for the Dawn Service, keep in mind that most secure car parks do not open early on public holidays.

If you're driving and parking for the March, remember that extensive road closures will be in place making many car parks in the city centre inaccessible by vehicle. You may need to consider parking outside of the immediate vicinity of the March and continuing by foot.

While roads are closed and the March is underway, designated pedestrian crossings on Elizabeth Street will be maintained at Park Street and Hunter Street, and underground crossings at Bathurst Street, Museum Station and Martin Place Station.

Check out the interactive map to easily view the closures in place for the event.

Remember, it is an offence to drive on or exit a driveway onto a closed road. Once roads are closed you won't be able to move your car until they have reopened.
