Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city.

The M1 Metro North West & Bankstown Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham from early morning until late. 

Change at Epping or Central to connect with train services towards Lidcombe then Olympic Park.  

Train trackwork on the T4 Eastern Suburbs Line may affect how you travel. Buses replace trains between Bondi Junction and Central, but do not stop at Martin Place.  

If travelling to T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line stations change at:

• Gadigal for express buses from Town Hall to Bondi Junction  
• Central for buses to Kings Cross and Edgecliff, or trains to T4 Illawarra Line stations

The closest station to Sydney Showgrounds is Olympic Park.

Trains run regularly to Lidcombe where you can head to Platform Zero for a direct train to Olympic Park, running every 10 minutes until late.

Please note that weekend trackwork may impact your trip: 

• Buses replace trains between Emu Plains, Richmond and Parramatta on the T1 Western Line.
• Buses also replace trains between Bathurst and Parramatta on the Blue Mountains Line. Allow extra travel time and plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Trackwork 

Planned weekend trackwork is taking place on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner. 

Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August 

• T1 Western Line: Buses replace trains between Emu Plains, Richmond and Parramatta. Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Parramatta and the City. Buses also run between some T1 Western Line stations and Tallawong. Frequent metro services run between Tallawong and the City.
• T2 Leppington & Inner West Line: On Saturday from 7.40am to 2pm, buses replace trains between Leppington and Glenfield. Trains run to a changed timetable between Glenfield and the City via Granville or the Airport, some to a changed timetable. On Sunday from 6.20am to 10.30am, buses replace Inner West trains between Ashfield and Central. Leppington trains make extra stops at Homebush and Croydon. T1 Western Line trains make an extra stop at Burwood.  
• T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line: On Saturday from 6.30am to 10:30am, trains run to a changed timetable between Liverpool and Lidcombe, and between Homebush and the City only. You may need to change trains to continue your journey. T1 Western and T2 Leppington Line trains run between Lidcombe and the City. On Sunday from 6.20am to 10.30am, buses replace Inner West trains between Ashfield and Central. Trains run to a changed timetable between Liverpool and Lidcombe only. You may need to change services to continue your journey. T1 Western and T2 Leppington Line trains run between Lidcombe and the City.
• T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: Buses replace trains between Central and Bondi Junction, but do not stop at Martin Place. Trains run to a changed timetable between Cronulla, Waterfall, and the City Circle, with some making extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville. Change at: Central for buses to Kings Cross and Edgecliff or Metro services to Martin Place, or Town Hall for express buses to Bondi Junction. From Martin Place, use metro services, local buses, or walk to Wynyard Station for trains to T4 Illawarra Line stations.
• T5 Cumberland Line: Buses replace trains between Richmond and Parramatta. Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Parramatta or Leppington and the City via Granville. You may need to change services to continue your journey. On Saturday from 7.40am to 2pm, buses replace trains between Leppington and Glenfield. Trains run to a changed timetable between Parramatta or Glenfield and the City via Granville.
• T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line: Daily from 6.30am to 10.30am, trains run to a changed timetable and reduced frequency, every 30 minutes.
• T8 Airport & South Line: Trains between Sydenham and the City Circle run to a changed timetable. Trains via the Airport run to the normal timetable.
• Blue Mountains Line: Buses replace trains between Bathurst and Parramatta. T1 Western Line trains run to a changed timetable between Parramatta and the City.
• Central Coast & Newcastle Line: On Saturday from 7.30pm to 4.50am, buses replace trains from Newcastle Interchange to Wyong. From 7.50pm to 4.30am, buses replace trains from Wyong to Newcastle Interchange. Buses towards Wyong may leave up to 70 minutes earlier than the normal timetable. Trains run to a changed timetable between Wyong and Central. The last train towards Newcastle Interchange leaves Central at 17:18, arriving Newcastle Interchange at 19:48.
• Hunter Line: On Saturday from 7.30pm to 5am, trains run to a changed timetable due to trackwork between Newcastle Interchange and Wyong
• South Coast Line: Most trains run to a changed timetable between South Coast Line stations and Hurstville only. T4 Illawarra Line trains run to a changed timetable between Hurstville and the City Circle. Buses replace trains between Central and Bondi Junction, but do not stop at Martin Place. Change at Hurstville for T4 trains towards the City; Central for buses to Kings Cross and Edgecliff or Metro services to Martin Place or at Town Hall for express buses to Bondi Junction. From Martin Place Station, use metro services, local buses, or walk to Wynyard Station for trains to T4 Illawarra Line stations.

The following route buses run towards Olympic Park:

• Route 525 runs between Parramatta and Lidcombe, change for trains to continue your trip to Olympic Park.
• Route 526 runs between Strathfield and Rhodes Shopping Centre via Sydney Olympic Park precinct and wharf.  
• Route 533 runs between Sydney Olympic Park and Chatswood via Rhodes & North Ryde.

The closest wharf to Sydney Showground is Sydney Olympic Park Wharf. There is a connecting 526 bus to the venue or alternatively it is approximately a 40-minute walk (3.6km) from the wharf. 

F3 Parramatta River services run regularly to Olympic Park, but services are very popular and may reach capacity. Keep this in mind if you’re planning on catching an F3 Parramatta River service. Plan your trip and allow plenty of extra travel time or consider the alternative public transport options available.

F3 Parramatta River ferries may be affected by low tide between Parramatta and Rydalmere and replaced by buses. Check for updates here.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

Due to planned weekend trackwork and maintenance, buses replace all L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August.  

Replacement buses do not stop at Capitol Square (both directions), or at Exhibition Centre (towards The Star). Read the news story for more details and plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Change at Central for trains to Lidcombe then Olympic Park. 

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick Line light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford Line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. 

Due to planned weekend trackwork and maintenance, L2 and L3 light rail services will not run between Circular Quay and Central Chalmers Street on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August. Use trains or local buses instead.

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run between Carlingford and Westmead via Parramatta CBD. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Alight at Parramatta Square and connect with a train service towards Lidcombe then Olympic Park from Parramatta Station.  

Passengers are reminded that trams can’t stop quickly or easily – so please stop, listen and look around for trams and use designated pedestrian crossings.

Traffic may be heavier than usual on roads approaching Sydney Olympic Park as attendees travel to and from the event. Travel with your group and allow extra travel time on the M4, Parramatta Road, Homebush Bay Drive and Concord Road. 

If you have to drive, carpool with your group pre-book your parking online ahead of time to secure a space – available until 11:59pm the night before the event unless sold out prior.  

Road Closures 

Sydney Olympic Park Authority may close some local roads to accommodate increased public transport services and ensure pedestrian safety during events. For road closure details, visit the Sydney Olympic Park interactive map for more details.

The nearest Taxi Rank is on Herb Elliott Avenue near the Pullman Hotel.

If you’re using taxis or rideshare, remember that roads may be closed within the precinct. Allow plenty of extra travel time due to the increased traffic expected in the precinct before and after the event.

When leaving, choose a pick-up location away from the immediate area around the Showgrounds to avoid delays.

Visit Sydney Olympic Park – Parking to secure your parking space ahead of the event, available until 11:59pm the night before the event unless sold out prior. A flat rate $40 parking fee will apply.  

If you have pre-booked a space, follow the directions of staff and have your parking ticket ready to show at the car park entry. Carpool with your group and allow plenty of additional travel time. 

If you haven’t pre-booked, follow the variable message signs within Sydney Olympic Park to the best available casual parking.
