Sydney ferry disruptions due to protected industrial action

From 12.01am on Friday 4 September until 11.59pm on Tuesday 6 October 2026, some services on the Sydney Ferries network may be affected by protected industrial action. Transdev Sydney Ferries have been notified of the protected industrial action by the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA).

Disruption

The industrial action includes bans on overtime and certain other work arrangements from 12.01am on Friday 4 September until 11.59pm on Wednesday 30 September 2026.

While Sydney Ferries services are expected to continue operating, the industrial action may result in service cancellations, delays and changes across the network.

Passengers are urged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time. You can also download the Opal travel app and set up trip notifications.

The industrial action also includes a ban on MUA members selling, collecting or validating fares from 12.01am on Friday 11 September until 11.59pm on Tuesday 6 October 2026. Opal readers will continue to be active and you must continue to tap on and tap off using a valid Opal card or contactless payment method when travelling.

Transport for NSW is working closely with operator Transdev Sydney Ferries to minimise impacts where possible and provide timely updates to passengers.
