Up to 20,000 people are expected to attend the Oktoberfest celebrations in the Domain. Attendees are encouraged to catch public transport as the Domain is easily accessible by all modes of transport.

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including trains, buses, ferries and light rail. There is also a Travel Cap of $2.80 on Sundays.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you head you travel to avoid queues at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport in the Opal network, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network.. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Tallawong Station and Chatswood Station.

Metro services start running every 10 minutes from the early morning until late. Sydney Trains trackwork is taking place on the T9 Northern Line so attendees should change at Chatswood to connect with trains to Central.

Last services from Chatswood to Tallawong leave at 12.45am on Thursday nights and at 1.45am on Friday and Saturday nights.

The closest stations to The Domain are Martin Place, St James and Town Hall which are all within walking distance.

Trackwork

Trackwork is taking place from 02:00 Saturday 26 until 02:00 Monday 28 October and may affect how you travel to and from the event:

  • T1 North Shore Line: Buses replace trains between Berowra and Gordon.
  • T9 Northern Line: Buses replace trains between Hornsby and Strathfield. Trains run to a changed timetable from Olympic Park to the City, then continue to the T1 North Shore Line Stations.
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line: Buses replace trains between Newcastle Interchange and Central.
  • Hunter Line Buses replace trains between Scone, Dungog and Newcastle Interchange.
  • Blue Mountains Line: Trains start and end at Strathfield. 

Trackwork is carried out on an ongoing basis to maintain the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the Sydney Trains network. Trackwork may affect how you travel so allow plenty of extra travel time and plan ahead. A number of regular route buses make stops along Elizabeth St at St James and Martin Place which is within walking distance of the Domain. Route 200 between Bondi Junction and Chatswood stops nearby on Macquarie St. Plan your trip by bus using the Trip Planner.

Services run regularly to Circular Quay and the wharves are within walking distance of The Domain. Sydney Ferries services are very popular and may reach capacity, especially on weekends so make sure to have an alternate transport option in mind.

Light rail services run between Central Station and Dulwich Hill with stops at popular CBD and Inner West destinations. Change at Central for trains to St James station to get within walking distance of The Domain.

Note: Traffic changes for the CBD and South East Light Rail may affect how you travel so plan ahead and allow extra travel time. Day and night tram testing is underway between the Sydney CBD and South East so pedestrians are reminded to exercise caution and cross at designated pedestrian crossings

Some roads around the park may temporarily close for crowd safety after the event. Motorists are advised to exercise caution as pedestrian activity will be high on roads in the area between Hyde Park and the Domain.

An event drop off zone will be in place on the corner of Hospital Rd and Art Gallery Rd.

Metered parking is available on Mrs Macquaries Road, Hospital Road and Macquarie Street. Undercover parking is also available at the Domain Car Park.
