Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail. Receive Opal benefits including daily and weekly fare caps and a Travel Cap of $2.80 on Sundays. 

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport services including metro, trains, buses ferries and light rail, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Tallawong Station and Chatswood Station.

Metro services start from the early morning running every 10 minutes until late. Change at Epping or Chatswood for trains to the city to connect with trains to Wollongong.

The closest station to MacCabe Park is Wollongong on the South Coast Line. The park is approximately 1km walking distance from the station.

Trackwork

Trackwork is taking place from 02:00 Saturday 29 to 02:00 Monday 2 March and may affect how you travel to the event:

  • T1 Western Line: Buses replace trains between Emu Plains and Penrith
  • Blue Mountains Line: Buses replace trains between Lithgow and Penrith

The free 'Gong shuttle’ (routes 55A and 55C) operates in both directions on a loop from Wollongong Station to Wollongong University via Wollongong Hospital, Burelli Street and the Innovation Campus. Burelli St is less than 100m from MacCabe Park. 

The shuttle bus runs every 20 minutes from 8am to 6pm on Saturdays.

Traffic is expected to be heavier than usual along Keira St, Burelli St, Corrimal St, Crown St and the Princes Hwy as crowds arrive and leave over the weekend.

Motorists should allow extra travel time in the area and be aware of increased pedestrian activity on roads around the park.

Limited parking is available along Church St and George St in close proximity to the park.
