Important travel advice

Fans are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time.

When catching public transport, plan ahead and allow extra time. Trains run regularly to Broadmeadow on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line which is within walking distance of McDonald Jones Stadium.

Evening trackwork may affect how you travel home from the game with buses replacing trains from Wyong to Central from 7pm on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line and from 6pm between Newcastle Interchange and Telarah on the Hunter Line. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

It’s mandatory to wear a face mask when travelling on services in Greater Sydney, Blue Mountains, Central Coast and Wollongong areas from 5pm Thursday 6 May until 12.01am Monday 10 May. Fans travelling to and from the game on transport services in Newcastle are still strongly encouraged to wear a face mask. You can also check real-time capacity indicators when planning your trip or boarding services. Remember you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling to and from the event on public transport. Register your details via the Opal website or app ahead of time.

Additional measures and staff will be in place around transport hubs and the stadium to safely manage crowds arriving and leaving the event so please be patient, practise physical distancing while in queues and follow the directions of staff on site.

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport services including metro, trains, buses ferries and light rail, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Tallawong Station and Chatswood Station.

Metro services start from the early morning running every 10 minutes until late. Change at Epping to connect with Central Coast and Newcastle Line trains to Broadmeadow.

The closest station to McDonald Jones Stadium is Broadmeadow on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line. From the station, the stadium is approximately a 15-20 minute walk away (1.5km). 

After the match, an additional service to Wyong will leave Broadmeadow at 8:05pm, stopping at Adamstown, Kotara, Cardiff, Cockle Creek, Teralba, Booragul, Fassifern, Awaba, Dora Creek, Morisset, Wyee and Warnervale. Change at Wyong for bus services to Central Station.

Trains to Broadmeadow run approximately every hour in both directions. Evening trackwork may affect how you travel home from the game with buses replacing trains from Wyong to Central from 7pm on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line and from 6pm between Newcastle Interchange and Telarah on the Hunter Line. Trackwork

From 2am Saturday 8 May until 2am Monday 10 May trackwork is taking place on the following lines:

  • T1 North Shore Line: From 10.30pm Satuday until 3.30am Sunday trains run to a changed timetable between Berowra and Hornsby. Central Coast & Newcastle Line trains are replaced by buses between Central and Wyong.
  • T1 Western Line: Buses replace trains between Lidcombe and Strathfield. Trains run to a changed timetable - Check trackwork travel alerts for more detailed information 
  • T2 Inner West & South Line: Buses replace trains between Lidcombe and Strathfield. Trains run to a changed timetable - Check trackwork travel alerts for more detailed information 
  • T3 Bankstown Line: Some trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern, with extra trains running between Lidcombe and Lindfield via Sydenham.
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line South Coast Line: Daily from 5.30am until 11am, trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. Some trains start or end at Hurstville or Sutherland. You may need to change trains to continue your journey. 
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Extra trains run between Richmond and Leppington.
  • T7 Olympic Park Line: Trains run to a changed timetable between Olympic Park and Lidcombe, then continue to Penrith or Leppington. If you are travelling to the City change at Lidcombe for trains via the T3 Bankstown Line. Buses replace all trains between Lidcombe and Strathfield.
  • T9 Northern Line: Extra trains run between Rhodes and the City Circle. On Saturday, from 7.30pm until 3.30am, buses replace trains between Hornsby and Epping.
  • Blue Mountains Line: Buses replace trains between Blacktown and Central. Trains from Blacktown towards Blue Mountains Line stations leave 30 minutes later than normal. Some trains between Bathurst and Lithgow also run to a changed timetable.
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line: On Saturday From 6pm until 3.30am, buses replace trains from Central to Wyong. From 7pm until 3.30am, buses replace trains from Wyong to Central.
  • Hunter Line: On Saturday, from 6pm until 3.45am, buses replace trains between Telarah and Newcastle Interchange.
  • South Coast Line: Daily from 5.30am until 11am, some trains run to a changed timetable and make extra stops between Sutherland and Hurstville. On Saturday from 11.30am until 1pm, trains to the City make an extra stop at Mortdale.

Trackwork is carried out on an ongoing basis to maintain the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the Sydney Trains network. The closest bus stops to McDonald Jones Stadium are on Turton Road and Lambton Rd. Regular routes 13, 23, 25, 26 and 27 run towards the stadium. Check Newcastle Transport for more bus network information.

Ferries run between Stockton and Queens Wharf approximately every 20 minutes. At Queens Wharf change for a light rail service to Newcastle Interchange to connect with trains to Broadmeadow.

Newcastle Light Rail services run from 5am to 1am daily between Newcastle Interchange in Wickham and Pacific Park in Newcastle East. With six convenient stops it’s easy to get around Newcastle’s city centre and connect with train, bus and ferry services.

Catch a light rail service to Newcastle Interchange and change for a train to Broadmeadow where the stadium is within short walking distance.

Traffic may be heavier than usual on roads approaching the stadium including Turton Rd and Griffiths as fans travel to and from the game.

For passenger drop offs use the allocated 10 minute loading zone in the McDonald Jones Stadium car park. Entry via the driveway off Turton Road.

The nearest taxi rank to the stadium is located on Young Road, Broadmeadow. Taxis can be accessed after the event by following the signs to Young Road.

Pre-paid parking - parking on game days and major events is available only for vehicles with a pre-paid parking ticket. Pre paid parking tickets can be purchased via Ticketmaster online, by phone or by visiting Ticketmaster box office at McDonald Jones Stadium. Visit Ticketmaster - McDonald Jones Stadium.

Disabled parking areas have been designated in close proximity to each of McDonald Jones Stadiums accessible entries. To purchase a Mobility parking please phone Ticketmaster on 136 100 or visit the Ticketmaster box office at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Alternatively, parking is available in surrounding local roads.
