Important travel advice

Sydney's Open for Lunch ticketholders are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time.

When catching public transport, plan ahead, allow extra time and sit or stand on the green dots. You can also check real-time capacity indicators when planning your trip or boarding services.

All event sites are within short walking distance of major train stations and bus interchanges:

  • Parramatta Square, Parramatta: The closest transport hub is Parramatta.
  • QVB George St, Sydney CBD: The closest transport hub is Town Hall and QVB
  • York, Clarence and Kent St Laneways, Sydney CBD: The closest transport hub is Wynyard
  • South Eveleigh Piazza, South Eveleigh: The closest station is Redfern.

Remember it’s mandatory to wear a face mask when travelling on public transport, and you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling to and from the event. Register your details via the Opal website or app ahead of time.

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Tallawong Station and Chatswood Station.

Metro services start running from the early morning running every 10 minutes until late.

  • Change at Epping for trains to Redfern, Town Hall and Wynyard to get to the CBD event sites.
  • Change at Epping for trains towards Parramatta for the Parramatta Square event.

Trackwork

Weeknight trackwork is taking place on Friday 3 December and may affect how you travel home from the events:

  • T1 Western Line: From 10pm until 2am, trains run to a changed timetable and make extra stops at Homebush, Burwood and Ashfield. Some trains to the City end at Olympic Park. Change at Lidcombe to continue your journey.
  • T2 Inner West & Leppington Line: From 10pm until 2am, some trains to the City end at Olympic Park. Change at Lidcombe to continue your journey. Homebush trains run between Rhodes, Strathfield and the City only.

Trackwork is carried out on an ongoing basis to maintain the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the Sydney Trains network. Trackwork may affect how you travel so allow plenty of extra travel time and plan ahead. All event sites are within short walking distance of bus stops, plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

  • Parramatta Square, Parramatta: buses run regularly to nearby Parramatta Interchange.
  • QVB George St, Sydney CBD: buses run regularly to stops nearby along York St at QVB 
  • York, Clarence and Kent St Laneways, Sydney CBD: buses run regularly to Wynyard making stops on York St.
  • South Eveleigh Piazza, South Eveleigh: buses run regularly to Redfern stopping along Regent St and Henderson Rd within short walk of the piazza.

For access to CBD venues catch a ferry to Circular Quay then change for a train to Town Hall or Wynyard to continue on foot to the CBD event sites.

For access to the Parramatta event, the closest wharf stop to Parramatta Square is Parramatta Wharf. The wharf is approximately a 10 minute walk (750m) to Parramatta Square.

Light rail services will not run between Town Hall and Circular Quay while the event is underway. Regular services will resume running to and from Circular Quay after 7pm.

From 5am until 7pm on Friday 3 December L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford light rail services will run between Town Hall and Randwick / Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly, plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

  • From Town Hall the CBD event sites are within short walking distance
  • For access to the Parramatta event, change at Central for trains to Parramatta.

Please note, due to light rail vehicle repairs, buses are replacing all light rail services on the L1 Dulwich Hill Line between Central Grand Concourse and Dulwich Hill until further notice.
