Important travel advice

Attendees are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time.

Light rail services run regularly to Royal Randwick on the L2 Line or to Kensington on the L3 Line, which is within short walking distance of the racecourse. Plenty of regular route buses also make stops near the racecourse. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

If you’re driving, there’s plenty of parking on-site at the racecourse or consider using rideshare and taxis instead. Traffic may be heavier than usual on roads approaching Randwick so allow extra travel time. You can find real-time updates on traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.
 

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Tallawong Station and Chatswood Station.

Metro services start from the early morning running every 10 minutes until late. Change at Epping to connect with trains to Strathfield then Olympic Park.

The closest station to Royal Randwick Racecourse is Central.

Change at Central for Light Rail services to Royal Randwick on the L2 Line leaving from Chalmers Street. You can also catch the light rail to Kensington on the L3 Line to get within walking distance of the racecourse.

Please note planned weekend trackwork on the T1 North Shore Line, T2 Inner West Line and T3 Bankstown Line may affect your trip, and you may need to change for rail replacement buses. Allow extra travel time and plan ahead using the Trip Planner.

Trackwork

Weekend trackwork is taking place from 2am Saturday 11 February until 2am Monday 13 February on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner:

  • T1 North Shore: Buses replace trains between Gordon and Wynyard. Trains run between Hornsby and Gordon, some to a changed timetable.
  • T1 Western Line: Penrith trains make extra stops at Flemington, Homebush and Burwood. Richmond trains run between Richmond and Leppington only.
  • T2 Inner West & Leppington Line: Buses replace the all-stations Homebush trains between Strathfield and Central. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and Olympic Park, every 30 minutes and do not stop at Ashfield. From 11.30pm Saturday to 6am Sunday buses also replace trains between Merrylands and Strathfield.
  • T3 Bankstown Line: Buses replace trains between Lidcombe and Bankstown.
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: From 6.30am to 12.15pm, some trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern.
  • T8 Airport & Southern Line: From 9am to 3pm, buses replace the all-stations trains between Wolli Creek and Revesby.
  • T9 Northern Line: Trains run to a changed timetable between Berowra or Hornsby and Central
  • Blue Mountains Line: Trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork between Strathfield and Central
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line: From 6am to 11am, at Cowan, trains towards Central leave from platform 2, not platform
  • South Coast Line: from 6.30am to 12.15pm, some trains make extra stops between Sutherland and Hurstville.

A number of regular route buses travel between the City and Eastern Suburbs via Anzac Parade and Alison Road making stops near Randwick Racecourse. These include route 339, 396, 373 and 374 buses.

Catch one of the many ferry services to Circular Quay and change for a train to Town Hall to connect with light rail service to Royal Randwick on the L2 Randwick Line or to Kensington on the L3 Kingsford Line.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill light rail services run between Central Grand Concourse and Dulwich Hill from 6am to 11pm daily, and until midnight on Fridays. Use the Trip Planner to plan your trip.

Change at Central to connect with L2 and L3 light rail services leaving from Chalmers Street to Royal Randwick or Kensington to get within walking distance of the racecourse.

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily, plan your trip using Trip Planner.

Catch a light rail service to Royal Randwick on the L2 Randwick Line or Kensington on the L3 Kingsford Line to get within walking distance of the racecourse.

The Royal Randwick stop is located on Alison Road just across from the racecourse. The Kensington stop is located on Anzac Parade, a short walk from the racecourse entry on Ascot Street.

Traffic will be heavier than usual on roads around racecourse. If you have to drive or are using taxis or rideshare, allow additional travel time.

Trams are running between the CBD and South East so pedestrians are reminded to exercise caution around the tram tracks and cross at designated pedestrian crossings.

Taxi entry to Royal Randwick Racecourse is via the Ascot Street entrance where there is a secure taxi rank for drop offs and pick-ups.

Please note that taxis, rideshare and hire cars are not permitted to stop on Alison Road, Ascot Street or Doncaster Avenue.

There is free parking in the Infield car park on-site, entry via High Street opposite UNSW.

Members Private Reserved Parking is available in the multi-deck car park, entry via Ascot Street. Patrons must display their “members car park permit” at all times.
