Important event information

The best way to get to the event is by public transport. Plenty of public transport services run to the city including trains, buses, ferries and light rail services making stops within close walking distance of the Domain at Town Hall, QVB or Martin Place.

Public transport stops near the Domain:

  • Train: the closest train stations are St James, Martin Place, Town Hall, and Wynyard
  • Bus: the closest bus interchanges are at Town Hall QVB and Park St, Martin Place, St James, and Hyde Park
  • Light rail: the closest light rail stops are Town Hall, QVB, and Wynyard
  • Ferries: the closest ferry wharf is Circular Quay. Keep in mind ferries in Sydney are very popular and fill quickly so have a backup option in mind.

Roads in the Domain will close from 7pm on Sunday 5 March. Roads outside the Domain will be closed from 9pm until 11:30pm to allow crowds to safely leave the area.

If you are planning on driving or catching rideshare and taxis, allow extra travel time as traffic will be heavier than usual in the area. Use the dedicated drop off location on Hospital Rd at Art Gallery Rd. You can find real-time updates on traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.

Event ticket entitlements

Valid pre-purchased tickets to Sydney WorldPride ticketed events on Saturday 4 March and Sunday 5 March, including Rainbow Republic, include travel to and from the event on the following public transport services – just show your event ticket to transport staff when boarding:

  • Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink services (bounded by Bomaderry, Goulburn, Bathurst, Scone and Dungog stations)
  • Sydney Buses
  • Sydney Metro North West services.
  • Sydney and Newcastle Light Rail services
  • Sydney and Newcastle Ferries

Remember to keep your event ticket safe for your return journey or you'll need to use your Opal card or contactless payment method, as you must have a valid ticket when travelling on public transport. Your event ticket is valid on the modes of public transport listed above until 4am the following day.

Note: an additional train station access fee applies for travel to or from Domestic and International Airport stations. The access fee is not covered by your event ticket travel entitlements.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Tallawong Station and Chatswood Station.

Metro services start from the early morning running every 10 minutes until late. Change at Epping to connect with train services towards the city to get within walking distance of the Domain.

Trackwork

Weekend trackwork will take place from 2am Saturday 4 March until 2am Monday 6 March on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

  • South Coast Line: buses replace trains between Bomaderry, Kiama and Wollongong

Plenty of regular route buses run to the city making stops within short walking distance of The Domain.

Bus diversions

Over the weekend, from 12:01am Saturday 4 March until 12.30am Monday 6 March route 500x, 506 and 500n buses towards Hyde Park will end trips at Town Hall Park St, Stand H due to road closures for the event. Services leaving the city will pick up from Town Hall, Park St Stand K.

Services run regularly to Circular Quay and the wharves are within walking distance of the Domain. Sydney Ferries services are very popular and may reach capacity, particularly on weekends, so have alternative transport options in mind.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill light rail services run between Central Grand Concourse and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour from 6am to 11pm daily, and until midnight on Fridays. Use the Trip Planner to plan your trip.

From Central connect with trains to St James or change for a light rail service on the L2 or L3 Line to QVB or Town Hall to get within walking distance of the Domain.

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and the L3 Kingsford line services run between Circular Quay and Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily, plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

The closest stops to the Domain are QVB and Town Hall on the L2 and L3 lines which are both within walking distance.

Travel by car is not recommended as traffic will be heavy and there are limited car spaces available (note that parking fees typically apply). If you are driving, arrive early to secure a parking spot.

If you are catching rideshare or taxis, use the dedicated drop off location on Hospital Rd at Art Gallery Rd. For pick-ups after the event head towards Elizabeth St or Sir John Young Crescent. These areas will be clearly signed on the event day.

Some roads around The Domain will close for crowd safety before, during and after the event. Motorists should avoid driving through the area at the end of the event and consider alternative routes.

  • St James Rd between Elizabeth St and Macquarie St
  • St Mary’s Rd between Yurong Pkwy and Prince Albert Rd

Car parks

The nearest car park is the The Wilson Domain Car park on St Marys Rd Sydney, parking rates will apply.

Special event clearways

Special event clearway street parking restrictions will be in effect on roads around the Domain from 1am to 11.30pm on Sunday 5 March.

  • Clearways will be in effect on sections of College St, Hospital Rd, Hunter St, Macquarie St, Prince Albert Rd, Shakespeare Place, St James Rd and St Marys Rd

Clearways are strict no-parking zones, and apply even to local residents and businesses with parking permits and Mobility Scheme permit holders.

Look for the bright yellow signs and read them carefully on the day and the night before when parking as some clearways come into effect very early in the morning. Vehicles left in special event clearways will be towed and a fee applies. If your vehicle is towed, call 132 701 to find its new location.

Vehicle drop off

Accessible drop off is available at the dedicated drop off location on Hospital Rd at Art Gallery Rd heading to the event. Accessible pick-up is available on St Mary’s Rd near Cathedral St. See our Domain transport map (pdf 740KB)No parking permitted, drop offs only. This section of road will be closed and access will be provided by Police at the intersection of St Mary’s Rd, Crown St, and Sir John Young Cres, upon sighting of a valid mobility or disability parking scheme permit. Wheelchair Accessible Taxis with bookings will also be provided access.
