Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Tallawong Station and Chatswood Station.

Metro services start from the early morning and run every 10 minutes until late. Change at Epping or Chatswood for train connections to the city.

The closest station to get to and from the event is Circular Quay, where services run regularly each day. Alternatively, Wynyard and Martin Place stations are within short walking distance of the event site also.

Please note that due to planned weeknight trackwork on Thursday 11 July from 10pm, trains do not run to or from Circular Quay. If you are travelling home after this time, walk or catch the light rail to Wynyard to connect with train services. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner.

Trackwork

Planned trackwork is taking place throughout the event and may affect how you travel. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner:

Weekday – Thursday 11 July to Friday 12 July

• City Circle: On Thursday night from 10pm to 1.30am, trains will not run to Museum, St James or Circular Quay. T1 North Shore & Western, T2 Inner West and T9 Northern Line trains continue to run between Central, Town Hall and Wynyard. T4 Eastern Suburbs Line trains continue to run between Central, Town Hall, Martin Place and Kings Cross. The light rail runs between Central and Circular Quay. If you are travelling to Circular Quay, change at Wynyard for the light rail or walk. If you are travelling to Museum or St James, change at Central or Town Hall for local buses or walk.
• T1 Western Line: On Thursday night from 10pm to 1.30am, some trains make an extra stop at Ashfield.
• T2 Inner West & Leppington Line: On Thursday nightly from 9.50pm to 1.30am, trains run between Leppington and Central, platforms 1-12 via Granville, and will not stop at Ashfield. Inner West trains run between Homebush and North Sydney, some to a changed timetable, due to City Circle trackwork. Some T1 Western and T9 Northern Line trains make an extra stop at Ashfield.
• T3 Bankstown Line: On Thursday night from 10pm to 1.30am, trains start and end at Central due to City Circle trackwork.
• T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: Buses replace trains between Waterfall and Sutherland. Trains run between Cronulla, Sutherland and Bondi Junction, some to a changed timetable.
• T8 Airport & South Line: On Thursday night from 10pm to 1.30am, trains start and end at Central due to City Circle trackwork.
• T9 Northern Line: On Thursday night from 10pm to 1.30am, some trains make an extra stop at Ashfield.
• South Coast Line: Buses replace trains between Thirroul and Sutherland. During the morning and afternoon peak periods, limited direct trains run between South Coast Line stations and Bondi Junction, in the peak direction only, to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. At all other times, express buses run between Wollongong, North Wollongong and Sutherland. Trains run to a changed timetable between South Coast Line stations and Thirroul, and T4 Illawarra trains run between Sutherland and Bondi Junction.

Weekend – Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 July

• T1 Western Line: Richmond trains run between Richmond and Liverpool. Change trains at Parramatta to continue your journey towards the City.
• T2 Inner West & Leppington Line: Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Leppington and the City via Granville or Regents Park. Extra trains run between Liverpool and Richmond.
• T3 Bankstown Line: Buses replace trains between Lidcombe and Sydenham. Trains run between Leppington and the City via Regents Park, and between Sydenham and the City Circle, to a changed timetable. From 9.45pm Saturday to 6.20am Sunday, buses also replace trains between Sydenham and Central. You will need to change buses at Sydenham to continue your journey.
• T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: Buses replace trains between Waterfall and Sutherland. Trains run between Cronulla, Sutherland and Bondi Junction, some to a changed timetable. From 9.45pm Saturday to 6.20am Sunday, buses also replace trains between Sydenham and Central. Trains run to a changed timetable between Cronulla, Sutherland and Sydenham only. If you are travelling between T4 Illawarra Line stations and the City change trains at Wolli Creek to continue your journey, in both directions. T8 Airport Line trains run between Wolli Creek and the City Circle. T4 Eastern Suburbs Line trains run between Bondi Junction and Central only.
• Blue Mountains Line: Trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork between Strathfield and Central.
• Central Coast & Newcastle Line: Trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork between Strathfield and Central.
• South Coast Line: Buses replace trains between Dapto, Port Kembla and Sutherland. You may need to change buses to continue your journey. Trains run to a changed timetable between Bomaderry, Kiama and Dapto, and T4 Illawarra trains run between Sutherland and Bondi Junction. From 9.50pm Saturday to 6am Sunday, buses also replace trains between Sydenham and Central.

Trackwork is carried out on an ongoing basis to maintain the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the Sydney Trains network. Trackwork may affect how you travel so allow plenty of extra travel time and plan ahead. Check travel alerts and trackwork or use the Trip Planner.

Plenty of buses run to Circular Quay or nearby Wynyard and Martin Place transport hubs to get within walking distance of the festival. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Ferry services are a popular way to travel to Circular Quay, particularly on weekends. Keep this is mind if you are planning to catch a ferry service. Allow extra travel time or consider the alternative transport options available, including buses, trains and light rail services.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Please note that due to maintenance work, L1 light rail services will not run between Central Grand Concourse and Convention from Monday 8 to Saturday 13 July. L1 services will run as normal between Convention and Dulwich Hill. Use alternative transport including L1 replacement bus services, regular bus services or walking where possible. At Central, connect with L2 and L3 Line light rail services to Circular Quay. Alternatively, change to a train to Circular Quay on the City Circle. 

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily, , plan your trip using Trip Planner.

Traffic will be heavier than usual on roads in the city and around Circular Quay, particularly during the evening peak. Allow additional travel time.

Road Closures

Local roads will be closed to accommodate the event. 

From 12pm Wednesday 10 July to 10am Monday 15 July:

• Loftus Street between Reiby Place and Alfred Street
• Eastbound lanes of Custom House Lane between Loftus Street and Young Street

Trams are running in the CBD so pedestrians are reminded to exercise caution around the tram tracks and cross at designated pedestrian crossings.
