Important Travel Advice

Fans are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time.  

L1 Dulwich Hill line light rail services run regularly between Central Grand Concourse and Dulwich Hill. Catch an L1 light rail services to the Leichhardt North stop, which is a short walk to Leichhardt Oval via Mary Street. 

Remember, you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time.

If you're driving allow extra travel time for parking as traffic may be heavier than usual. You can find real-time updates on traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Tallawong Station and Chatswood Station.

Metro services start from the early morning running every 10 minutes until late. Change at Epping or Chatswood for a train to Central where you can connect with L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services to Leichhardt North. Alternatively, connect with buses in the city that travel towards Leichhardt.

Trackwork

Planned weekend trackwork is taking place on Thursday 1 August on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner:

  • Metro North West Line: From 9.50pm to 1.30am, trackwork on the T1 North Shore Line may affect how you travel. Change at Epping, not Chatswood, for trains to the City. 
  • T1 North Shore Line: From 9.50pm to 1.30am, buses replace trains between Hornsby and Wynyard. The last train from Wynyard leaves at 9.46pm and arrives Hornsby at 10.30pm. Trains run between Berowra and Hornsby, some to a changed timetable. T1 Western and T9 Northern Line trains start and end at Central, platforms 1-12. 
  • T1 Western Line: From 9.10pm to 3am, buses replace Blue Mountains Line trains between Emu Plains and Penrith. T1 Western Line trains continue to run between Emu Plains and Penrith, to the normal timetable. From 9.50pm to 1.30am, trains start and end at Central, platforms 1-12. 
  • T4 Eastern Suburb & Illawara Line: From 10pm, buses replace trains between Cronulla and Sutherland. From 11pm to 2.30am, buses replace trains between Cronulla, Sutherland and Hurstville. Trains run between Waterfall and Sutherland, and between Hurstville and Bondi Junction, some to a changed timetable. 
  • T9 Northern Line: From 9.50pm to 1.30am, trains run between Hornsby and Central, platforms 1-12 only. 
  • Blue Mountains Line: From 7.30pm to 3.30am, buses replace trains from Lithgow to Penrith. The last train from the Blue Mountains leaves Mount Victoria at 7.01pm, arriving Central at 9.23pm. From 9.10pm to 3am, buses replace trains from Penrith to Lithgow. The last train to the Blue Mountains leaves Central at 7.18pm, arriving Mount Victoria at 9.36.pm. Trains run between Penrith and Central, some to a changed timetable. 
  • South Coast Line: From 9.20am to 2.15pm, buses replace trains between Port Kembla and Wollongong. Buses towards Wollongong may leave stations up to 15 minutes earlier than the normal train timetable. Trains run between Wollongong and Thirroul or Waterfall to the normal timetable. From 11pm to 2.30am, trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork between Sutherland and Hurstville.

A number or regular bus services make stops within walking distance of Leichhardt Oval, including routes 440, 437, 445 and 470.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Catch the L1 Line light rail service to Leichhardt North, which is a short walk to the oval via Mary Street.  

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly, plan your trip using Trip Planner. 

From Central, change to the L1 Line light rail service leaving from the Grand Concourse to get to Leichhardt North, which is a short walk to the oval via Mary Street.

Traffic will be heavier than usual on roads approaching Leichhardt Oval including as fans travel to the match in the busy evening peak. Allow extra travel time on James Street, Perry Street, Balmain Road, Mary Street and Glover Street.

A section of Mary Street may close before the game and will reopen when crowds have cleared the area. Traffic will be detoured via Chapel Street.

There are no designated taxi ranks available at Leichhardt Oval. The best location for drop off is Mary Street and for pick up is Perry Street.

Attendees are encouraged to plan to arrive early as local parking around the stadium is limited.
