Important Travel Advice

Fans are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time.

Trains run to Olympic Park from Lidcombe and the venue is a short walk from the station. Some dedicated event trains will also run. Match tickets include travel on public transport.  

Please note: Due to Planned Industrial Action this weekend, some train lines will run to a reduced frequency and services may be crowded. Allow extra travel time.

If you have to drive, travel with your group and pre-book your parking online – available until 11:59pm the night before the event. If you have pre-booked parking, carpool with your group. Follow the directions of staff and have your parking ticket ready to show at the car park entry.

Traffic will be heavier than usual on roads approaching the precinct as attendees travel to the match at the same time a concertgoers head to a show at neighbouring Qudos Bank Arena. You can find real-time updates on traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.

Match Ticket Entitlements

Valid pre-purchased tickets to the AFL Semi-Final: GWS Giants v Brisbane Lions at ENGIE Stadium includes travel to and from Sydney Olympic Park on the following transport services. Just show your event ticket to Transport staff when boarding services: 

  • Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink Intercity services (non-booked services bounded by Bomaderry, Goulburn, Bathurst, Scone and Dungog stations)
  • Sydney metropolitan and outer metropolitan buses
  • Sydney Metro services
  • Sydney and Newcastle Light Rail services
  • Sydney and Newcastle Ferries

Remember to keep your event ticket safe for your return journey or you'll need to use your Opal card, as you must have a valid ticket when travelling on public transport. Your event ticket is valid on trains until 4am the following day. 

Note: an additional train station access fee applies for travel to or from Domestic and International Airport stations. The access fee is not covered by your event ticket travel entitlements.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city. 

The M1 Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services in both directions between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham. 

Metro services start running from early morning, every 5 to 10 minutes, until late at night. 

Change at Epping or Central for trains towards Lidcombe then Olympic Park.

The closest station to ENGIE Stadium is Olympic Park. 

  • Additional express trains will leave Central at 5:55pm, 6.20pm and 6.35pm, stopping at Redfern, Strathfield then Olympic Park.
  • Trains also run regularly to Lidcombe where you can head to Platform Zero for a direct train to Olympic Park, running regularly until late.

Trackwork

Planned  trackwork is taking place on Saturday 14 September on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner

  • T1 North Shore Line:  Trains run to a reduced frequency and make extra stops between Hornsby and the City. Frequent metro services run between Chatswood and the City. T9 Northern Line trains run between Berowra and the City Circle via Strathfield.
  • T1 Western Line: Trains run to a reduced frequency and make extra stops between Penrith or Richmond and the City. Trains may be crowded and you should allow extra travel time. Frequent metro services run between Tallawong and the City.
  • T2 Inner West & Leppington Line: Buses replace trains between Leppington and Liverpool. Inner West trains will not run. Trains run between Liverpool and the City via Granville, to a reduced frequency and stop at all stations. Trains may be crowded and you should allow extra travel time. Buses also replace T8 Airport & South Line trains between Macarthur and East Hills.
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: Trains run to a reduced frequency and make extra stops between Cronulla or Waterfall and Bondi Junction. Trains may be crowded and you should allow extra travel time. Frequent metro services run between Sydenham and the City. On Saturday from 4am to 11.30am, buses replace trains between Waterfall and Sutherland.Trains run between Cronulla, Sutherland and Bondi Junction, some to a changed timetable.
  • T5 Cumberland Line: Buses replace trains between Leppington and Liverpool. Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between Liverpool or Richmond and the City. You may need to change trains at Granville to continue your journey.
  • T7 Olympic Park Line: Trains may run between Olympic Park and Lidcombe to a reduced frequency. Trains may be crowded and you should allow extra travel time.
  • T8 Airport & South Line: Buses replace trains between Macarthur and East Hills. Trains run to a reduced frequency and stop at all stations between East Hills and the City via the Airport. Trains may be crowded and you should allow extra travel time.
  • T9 Northern Line:  Trains run between Berowra or Epping and the City Circle via Strathfield, to a reduced frequency and changed stopping pattern. Frequent metro services run between Epping and the City. Trains may be crowded and you may need to change trains to continue your journey. 
  • South Coast Line:  From 2.30am to 9.50am, buses replace trains between Bomaderry and Wollongong. Trains run between Port Kembla, Wollongong and Bondi Junction, some to a changed timetable. The 02:39 Kiama to Bondi Junction service will run up to 14 minutes earlier than the normal timetable from Kiama to Coniston, then run to the normal timetable from Wollongong to Bondi Junction.
  • Southern Highlands Line: Buses replace trains between Goulburn, Moss Vale and East Hills. You may need to change buses to continue your journey.

The following route buses make stops at Sydney Olympic Park:

  • Route 525 runs between Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park via Newington (As of 4 August, this route no longer runs to or from Strathfield, catch 526 buses instead). 
  • Route 526 runs between Burwood and Rhodes Shopping Centre via Sydney Olympic Park precinct and wharf.  
  • Route 533 runs between Sydney Olympic Park and Chatswood via Rhodes & North Ryde.

The closest wharf to ENGIE Stadium is Sydney Olympic Park Wharf. There is a connecting 526 bus to the venue or alternatively it is approximately a 40-minute walk (3.6km) from the wharf. 

F3 Parramatta River services run regularly to Olympic Park, but services are very popular and may reach capacity. Keep this in mind if you’re planning on catching an F3 Parramatta River service. Plan your trip and allow plenty of extra travel time or consider the alternative public transport options available. 

F3 Parramatta River ferries may be affected by low tide between Parramatta and Rydalmere and replaced by buses. Check for updates here

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Change at Central for trains to Lidcombe then Olympic Park. 

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick Line light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford Line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily, plan your trip using the Trip Planner

From Central, connect with trains to Lidcombe then Olympic Park.

Traffic will be heavier than usual on roads approaching Sydney Olympic Park as attendees travel to and from the match while a concert also takes place at neighbouring Qudos Bank Arena. Travel with your group and allow extra travel time on the M4, Parramatta Road, Homebush Bay Drive and Concord Road. 

If you have to drive, carpool with your group pre-book your parking online ahead of time to secure a space – available until 11:59pm the night before the event unless sold out prior.  

To get to your carpark and avoid the heavy traffic congestion expected at the Homebush Bay Drive roundabout, use Silverwater Road, Holker Street and Hill Road.

The nearest Taxi Rank is on Herb Elliott Avenue near the Pullman Hotel.

If you’re using taxis or rideshare, remember that roads may be closed within the precinct. Allow plenty of extra travel time due to the increased traffic expected in the precinct before and after the game.

When leaving, choose a pick-up location away from the immediate area around the stadium to avoid delays.

Demand for rideshare will be high and prices are likely to be surging. Avoid the traffic delays while roads are closed and consider catching a train or bus outside of the precinct instead to catch rideshare.

Visit Sydney Olympic Park – Parking to secure your parking space ahead of the match. A flat rate $35 parking fee will apply.  

If you have pre-booked a space, follow the directions of staff and have your parking ticket ready to show at the car park entry. Carpool with your group and allow plenty of additional travel time. Use Silverwater Road, Holker Street and Hill Road to get to your car park and avoid the heavy traffic congestion expected at the Homebush Bay Drive roundabout. 

Traffic delays are expected after the event as attendees leave the precinct.
