Match ticket entitlements 

Valid pre-purchased tickets to the 2025/2026 BBL Sydney Thunder home matches at ENGIE Stadium include travel to and from Olympic Park on the following transport services, just show your event ticket to transport staff when boarding: 

• Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink Intercity services (non-booked services bounded by Bomaderry, Goulburn, Bathurst, Scone and Dungog stations)
• Sydney Metro services
• Sydney, Parramatta and Newcastle Light Rail services

Remember to keep your event ticket safe for your return journey or you'll need to use your Opal card or contactless payment method, as you must have a valid ticket when travelling on public transport. Your event ticket is valid on the modes of public transport listed above until 4am the following day.  

Note: an additional train station access fee applies for travel to or from Domestic and International Airport stations. The access fee is not covered by your event ticket travel entitlements.

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Transport Park&Ride Car Parks 

Park for free when you catch public transport. Transport Park&Ride provides up to 18 hours of free parking each day. All you have to do is complete a public transport trip. Located close to public transport hubs, Park&Ride car parks help you connect more easily to train, bus and ferry services. 

Tickets to 2025/2026 BBL Sydney Thunder home matches at ENGIE Stadium include travel on transport and free Park&Ride parking. When leaving the car park use the intercom button at the exit gate to speak with the operator and show your event ticket.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city. 

The M1 Metro North West & Bankstown Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham from early morning until late. 

Change at Epping or Central to connect with train services towards Lidcombe then Olympic Park. Match tickets include travel on metro – just show your event ticket to transport staff when boarding. 

Trackwork

• From 9.50pm, metro services do not run between Central and Sydenham. 
• Services run between Tallawong and Martin Place, and between Martin Place and Central only.
• Change at Martin Place for metro services towards Tallawong or Central, or T4 trains to Sydenham.
• For travel to and from Waterloo use local buses or trains from Redfern.
• The last metro service leaves Sydenham at 21:44, Martin Place at 21:53, arriving Tallawong at 22:42.
• The last metro service to Sydenham leaves Tallawong at 21:00, Martin Place at 21:49, arriving Sydenham at 21:58. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

The closest station to ENGIE Stadium is Olympic Park.  

Trains run regularly to Lidcombe where you can head to Platform Zero for a direct train to Olympic Park, running every 10 minutes until late. Match tickets include travel on trains – just show your event ticket to transport staff when boarding. 

Trackwork 

Planned trackwork is taking place on Monday 12 January on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner. 

• M1 Metro Line: From 9.50pm, metro services do not run between Central and Sydenham. Services run between Tallawong and Martin Place, and between Martin Place and Central only. Change at Martin Place for metro services towards Tallawong or Central, or T4 trains to Sydenham. For travel to and from Waterloo use local buses or trains from Redfern. The last metro service leaves Sydenham at 21:44, Martin Place at 21:53, arriving Tallawong at 22:42. The last metro service to Sydenham leaves Tallawong at 21:00, Martin Place at 21:49, arriving Sydenham at 21:58.
• T1 Western Line: From 11.50pm to 2.30am, buses replace trains from Blacktown to Penrith, in that direction only. Trains run from the City to Blacktown only. Trains towards the City run to the normal timetable.
• T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: From 9.50pm to 2.30am, buses replace trains between Cronulla, Sutherland and Hurstville. Trains run between Waterfall and Sutherland, and between Hurstville and Bondi Junction, to a changed timetable. South Coast Line trains continue to run between Sutherland and Hurstville. Metro services do not run between Sydenham and Central. Change at Martin Place for metro services towards Tallawong.
• Blue Mountains Line: From 11.50pm to 2.30am, buses replace trains from Blacktown to Penrith, in that direction only. Trains run from Penrith to Blue Mountains Line stations, some to a changed timetable. T1 Western Line trains run between Central and Blacktown. You may need to catch an earlier T1 train to ensure you meet your Blue Mountains bus and train connection. The last train to Blue Mountains Line stations leaves Central at 23:10, arriving Mount Victoria at 01:31.
• South Coast Line: From 11pm to 2.30am, trains may run to a changed timetable due to trackwork between Sutherland and Hurstville. From 9.50pm, metro services do not run between Sydenham and Central. Change at Martin Place for metro services towards Tallawong.

The following route buses make stops at Sydney Olympic Park:

• Route 525 runs between Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park via Newington.
• Route 526 runs between Strathfield and Rhodes Shopping Centre via Sydney Olympic Park precinct and wharf.
• Route 533 runs between Sydney Olympic Park and Chatswood via Rhodes & North Ryde.

The closest wharf to ENGIE Stadium is Sydney Olympic Park Wharf. There is a connecting 526 bus to the venue or alternatively it is approximately a 40-minute walk (3.6km) from the wharf.

F3 Parramatta River services run regularly to Olympic Park, but services are very popular and may reach capacity. Keep this in mind if you’re planning on catching an F3 Parramatta River service. Plan your trip and allow plenty of extra travel time or consider the alternative public transport options available. 

F3 Parramatta River ferries may be affected by low tide between Parramatta and Rydalmere and replaced by buses. Check for updates here.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner. 

Change at Central for trains to Lidcombe then Olympic Park. 

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick Line light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford Line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner. 

Change at Central for trains to Lidcombe then Olympic Park. 

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line 

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run between Carlingford and Westmead via Parramatta CBD. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner. 

Alight at Parramatta Square and connect with a train service towards Olympic Park from Parramatta Station. 

Passengers are reminded that trams can’t stop quickly or easily – so please stop, listen and look around for trams and use designated pedestrian crossings.

Traffic will be heavier than usual on roads approaching Sydney Olympic Park as attendees travel to multiple events in the precinct across the day and evening. Travel with your group and allow extra travel time on the M4, Parramatta Road, Homebush Bay Drive and Concord Road. 

If you have to drive, carpool with your group pre-book your parking online ahead of time to secure a space – available until 11:59pm the night before the event unless sold out prior. 

To get to your carpark and avoid the heavy traffic congestion expected at the Homebush Bay Drive roundabout, use Silverwater Road, Holker Street and Hill Road.  

Changed traffic conditions

Sydney Olympic Park Authority may close some local roads to accommodate increased public transport services and ensure pedestrian safety during events. For road closure details, visit the Sydney Olympic Park interactive map for more details.

The nearest Taxi Rank is on Herb Elliott Avenue near the Pullman Hotel.

If you’re using taxis or rideshare, remember that roads may be closed within the precinct. Allow plenty of extra travel time due to the increased traffic expected in the precinct before and after the game.

When leaving, choose a pick-up location away from the immediate area around the stadium to avoid delays.

Sydney Olympic Car Parks

Visit Sydney Olympic Park – Parking to secure your parking space ahead of the game, available until 11:59pm the night before the event unless sold out prior. A flat rate $35 parking fee will apply.  

Alternatively, consider parking at a nearby train station commuter car park and continuing the trip to Olympic Park by train. Match tickets include travel on public transport.  

If you have pre-booked a space, follow the directions of staff and have your parking ticket ready to show at the car park entry. Carpool with your group and allow plenty of additional travel time. Use Silverwater Road, Holker Street and Hill Road to get to your car park and avoid the heavy traffic congestion expected at the Homebush Bay Drive roundabout. 

If you haven’t pre-booked, follow the variable message signs within Sydney Olympic Park to the best available casual parking. 

Train Station Commuter Parking 

A number of key train stations have large commuter car parks, so consider parking at a station near you then continuing your journey by train to Olympic Park. 

• T1 Western Line: Seven Hills, Blacktown, Rooty Hill, St Marys, Emu Plains and Penrith. 
• T1 North Shore & T9 Northern Line: Gordon, Thornleigh and Concord West. 
• T2 Inner West & Leppington Line: Fairfield, Warwick Farm, Leppington and Edmonson Park.
• T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: Sutherland and Kogarah. 
• T8 Airport & South Line: Padstow, Revesby, Fairfield, Warwick Farm, Glenfield, Holsworthy, Macarthur, Campbelltown and Leumeah.
