Important Travel Advice
Around 8,000 participants will take to the roads for the inaugural Parramatta Half Marathon on Sunday 21 June.
With road closures in place along and surrounding the course, participants are encouraged to catch public transport.
- Travel on all modes of public transport is included for participants – simply show your race bib to transport staff when boarding services.
- Trains and buses run regularly to Parramatta Station and Bus interchange. From there it’s a short 15 minute walk to the start line on O’Connell St near CommBank Stadium.
- Transport changes: Light rail services will not run between Parramatta Square and Westmead from 5am to 12pm midday due to the event. Buses will replace services during this time. Light rail will continue to operate between Parramatta Square and Carlingford. Some buses will also be diverting and using different stops while roads are closed.
- Road closures: roads in Parramatta and Westmead will begin closing from 3am. Some roads will progressively reopen from 10.30am and 11am, with all roads reopened by midday. Special event clearway parking restrictions will be in effect on various roads between 1am and 12 midday, check signs carefully when parking to avoid being towed.

Ticket Entitlements
Event ticket entitlements
Participants registered in the Parramatta Half Marathon on Sunday 21 June 2026 are entitled to travel on all modes of public transport at no additional cost.
Simply show your race bib to transport staff when boarding services on the following transport modes:
- Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink Intercity services (non-booked services bounded by Bomaderry, Goulburn, Bathurst, Scone and Dungog stations)
- Sydney Metro services
- Sydney metropolitan and outer metropolitan bus services
- Sydney, Parramatta and Newcastle Light Rail services
- Sydney and Newcastle Ferries
Remember to keep your event race bib safe for your return journey or you'll need to use your Opal card or contactless payment method, as you must have a valid ticket when travelling on public transport. Your event ticket / race bib is valid on the modes of public transport listed above until 4am the following day.
Note: an additional train station access fee applies for travel to or from Domestic and International Airport stations. The access fee is not covered by your event ticket travel entitlements.
Transport Park&Ride Car Parks
Park for free when you catch public transport. Transport Park&Ride provides up to 18 hours of free parking each day. All you have to do is complete a public transport trip. Located close to public transport hubs, Park&Ride car parks help you connect more easily to train, bus and ferry services.
Participants of the 2026 Parramatta Half Marathon are entitled to travel on all modes of transport and get free Park&Ride parking. When leaving the car park use the intercom button at the exit gate to speak with the operator and show your race bib.
If you use a Transport Connect account to access Park&Ride, the boom gate will automatically open as you leave the car park so you’ll need to request a refund in your account.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city.
M1 Metro North West & Bankstown Line Planned Trackwork – Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 May
- Metro services will not run between Tallawong and Sydenham.
- Buses replace services between Tallawong and Chatswood only.
- For travel to and from Waterloo use local buses or trains from Redfern.
- For travel between Epping, Chatswood and Sydenham use trains.
Change at Chatswood or Epping to connect with trains service to Parramatta. Alternatively change at Epping for a bus, or for a train service to Strathfield to connect with trains to Parramatta.

The closest station to the start line on O’Connell St is Parramatta. Services will run to a regular weekend timetable.
From Parramatta station it’s a short 15 minute walk to the start line near CommBank Stadium.
Trackwork
Planned trackwork is taking place on Sunday 21 June on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner.
- City Circle: trains will not operate to Museum, St James, or Circular Quay. Customers are advised to use light rail or local buses.
- T2 Leppington & Inner West Line: buses will replace trains between Leppington and Glenfield.
- T5 Cumberland Line: buses will replace trains between Leppington and Glenfield.
- T8 Airport & South Line: buses will replace trains between Glenfield, Sydenham, and Central via the Airport.
- South Coast Line: On Sunday morning buses replace trains between Bomaderry, Port Kembla, and Wollongong.

Regular route buses
Plenty of regular route buses run to and from Parramatta Interchange on weekends. Access to the bus interchange will be maintained during the event.
From the station continue on foot to the starting line on O’Connell Street near CommBank Stadium. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner.
Route 52 buses between Parramatta and the city via West Ryde will recommence services on Sunday 21 June 2026. Buses make stops along Victoria Rd in Parramatta a short walk from the start line.
Light rail replacement buses
Buses will replace light rail services between Westmead and Parramatta Square from 5am to 12pm Sunday 21 June while the event is underway.
Buses will run to a regular Sunday timetable, stopping along or near the closed light rail stops.

Bus diversions
Route 545:
- On Sunday 21 June, from 3am to 12pm route 545 buses will be diverting and using different stops while roads are closed for the Parramatta Half Marathon.
- Buses will divert around George St and Macarthur St via Wilde Ave, Smith St and Station St East in both directions to access Parramatta Bus Interchange, making stops along the detoured route.
- Stops on George St and Macarthur St will be missed in both directions.

The closest wharf to the start line is Parramatta Wharf however services do not run early on Sunday mornings. Use alternative transport including buses and trains.
After the run, the wharf is a 15 minute walk from the finish line at CommBank Stadium.
Low tide
Three F3 Parramatta River Ferry services will be affected by low tide on Sunday 21 June 2026. Ferries will not operate between Rydalmere and Parramatta wharves for these services, and will be replaced by buses. Check for updates here.
- The first ferry from Circular Quay at 7:07am will end at Rydalmere – connect with buses to Parramatta wharf.
- The first ferry from Parramatta at 7:38am will depart from Rydalmere at 7:58am instead. The second ferry departing Parramatta at 8:38am will depart from Rydalmere at 8:58am instead. Connect with buses to Rydalmere wharf to continue towards Circular Quay.

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line
L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run between Carlingford and Westmead via Parramatta CBD. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.
Service changes:
- Due to road closures for the event light rail services will not run between Parramatta Square and Westmead from 5am to 12pm. Buses will replace light rail services during this time.
- Buses will run to a regular Sunday timetable
- The closest light rail replacement bus stop to the start line is Prince Alfred Square.
- Light rail services continue to operate between Parramatta Square and Carlingford in both directions.
- From Parramatta Square continue on foot to the start line on O’Connell St outside CommBank Stadium.

Passengers are reminded that trams can’t stop quickly or easily – so please stop, listen and look around for trams and use designated pedestrian crossings.
L1 Dulwich Hill Line
L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.
Change at Central to connect with T1 Western Line trains towards Parramatta to get within walking distance of the start line on O'Connell St.
L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines
L2 Randwick Line light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford Line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Change at Central to connect with T1 Western Line trains towards Parramatta to get within walking distance of the start line on O'Connell St.

Road closures
Roads along and surrounding the course will be closed between 3am and 12 midday.
- 3am to 10.30am: roads in Western Sydney Uni campus area including sections of Fifth St and Railway St, and in Parramatta on River Rd West between James Ruse Dr and Alfred St.
- 3am to 11am: roads in Parramatta CBD including sections of Marsden St, George St, Thomas St, Phillip St, Macarthur St, Palmer St, Marist Pl, Market St, Sorrell St, Elizabeth St and surrounding local roads. Access for residents will be maintained on sections of Phillip St, George St and surrounding local lanes.
- 3am to 11am: all roads in Parramatta Park west of Parramatta River will be closed.
- 3am to 12 midday: roads in Parramatta CBD including O'Connell St between Victoria Rd and Argyle St, and sections of Park Pde, Alexandra Ave eastbound, Macquarie, George, Hunter and Pitt Streets, and roads in Parramatta Park east of Parramatta River
Motorists should allow extra travel time and be aware of increased pedestrian activity on roads in the area.
Detours
- Motorists are advised to avoid travelling through Parramatta CBD unless for essential purposes.
- Motorists travelling north or south of Parramatta CBD will be detoured via Wilde Ave, Smith St and Station St East only. All other key roads corridors will be closed for the event.
- Access to Parramatta Westfield will remain available from the south.
Detour around Parramatta CBD via James Ruse Dr, Victoria Rd, Cumberland Hwy, and Great Western Hwy to avoid creating and being caught in traffic congestion and delays. - Students sitting exams at the University of Western Sydney (Parramatta South Campus) will have access to P1 carpark. Other carparks on the southern side of Victoria Rd will be closed for the event between 3am and 10:30am.

Parramatta car parks
Participants driving to the event should allow plenty of extra travel as parking is expected to be in high demand and road closures will restrict access to some car parks. See the Parramatta Half Marathon Road Closure and Clearway Map (pdf 1.1MB).
The following car parks are within walking distance of the start line on O'Connell St:
- Eat Street Car Park, managed access via Smith Street, Phillip Street, and Erby Place.
- Parramatta Station Car Park, entry via Wentworth Street

Special event clearways
Special event clearways will be in effect between 1am and 12pm midday on sections of O'Connell St, Victoria Rd, Elizabeth St, Hunter St, Macquarie St, George St, Macarthur St, River Rd West and other local roads.
Clearways are strict no-parking zones for all vehicle types and apply even to local residents and TfNSW Mobility Scheme Permit holders. Check signs carefully as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies.

If your vehicle is towed, you can search your vehicle registration at the Find My Car website to find its new location, or alternatively call 132 701 to speak to an operator.
