Important Travel Advice

Ticketholders are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time.  

Tickets to the Boat Show include travel on trains, metro and light rail, simply show your ticket to transport staff when boarding services. If you're travelling by bus or ferry you will need to tap on/off services as normal using an Opal card or contactless payment. 

Trains run regularly to Olympic Park from Lidcombe and the venue is a short walk from the station.    

You'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time. 

If you have to drive, travel with your group and pre-book your parking online – available until 11:59pm the night before the event.  

The precinct will be busier than usual on Saturday as up to 70,000 people arrive for a football match in the evening at Accor Stadium nearby. Road closures will also be in place for the event so delays are expected, you can find real-time updates on traffic conditions at livetraffic.com. Valid pre-purchased tickets to the Sydney Boat Show at Sydney Showground include travel to and from Olympic Park on the following transport services, just show your event ticket to transport staff when boarding: 

  • Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink Intercity services (non-booked services bounded by Bomaderry, Goulburn, Bathurst, Scone and Dungog stations) 
  • Sydney Metro services 
  • Sydney, Parramatta and Newcastle Light Rail services 

Remember to keep your event ticket safe for your return journey or you'll need to use your Opal card or contactless payment method, as you must have a valid ticket when travelling on public transport. Your event ticket is valid on the modes of public transport listed above until 4am the following day.  

Note: an additional train station access fee applies for travel to or from Domestic and International Airport stations. The access fee is not covered by your event ticket travel entitlements.

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Transport Park&Ride Car Parks

Park for free when you catch public transport. Transport Park&Ride provides up to 18 hours of free parking each day. All you have to do is complete a public transport trip. Located close to public transport hubs, Park&Ride car parks help you connect more easily to train, bus and ferry services.

Tickets to Sydney Boat Show at Sydney Showground include travel on transport and free Park&Ride parking. When leaving the car park use the intercom button at the exit gate to speak with the operator and show your event ticket. 

If you use a Transport Connect account to access Park&Ride, the boom gate will automatically open as you leave the car park so you’ll need to request a refund in your account.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city.

The M1 Metro North West & Bankstown Line operates turn up-and-go Metro services between Tallawong, Chatswood and Sydenham from early morning until late. 

Change at Epping or Central to connect with train services towards Lidcombe then Olympic Park.

The closest station to Qudos Bank Arena is Olympic Park.

Trains run regularly to Lidcombe where you can head to Platform Zero for a direct train to Olympic Park, running every 10 minutes until late.

Trackwork 

No planned trackwork is taking place on both Thursday 30 & Friday 31 July, however planned weekend trackwork is taking place from Saturday 1 to Sunday 2 August on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner

Weekend – Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 August 

  • T1 Western Line: On Saturday from 5am to 9am, Penrith trains make an extra stop at Burwood. On Sunday trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. Penrith trains make extra stops at Homebush, Flemington and Burwood. Richmond trains run between Richmond and Liverpool only. Change trains at Parramatta to continue your journey. From 5.30am to 11.30am, Richmond trains run between Richmond and Olympic Park. Change trains at Lidcombe to continue your journey towards the City.
  • T2 Leppington & Inner West Line: On Saturday from 5am to 9am, Inner West trains run between Ashfield and the City Circle only. Leppington trains make extra stops at Homebush and Croydon. On Sunday buses replace Inner West trains between Strathfield and Ashfield. Trains continue to stop at Burwood. Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between: Ashfield and the City, and Leppington and the City via Granville, but do not stop at Ashfield. From 5.30am to 10am, buses replace trains between Cabramatta and Granville. Trains run between Leppington and the City via Regents Park. 
  • T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line: On Saturday from 5am to 9am, trains run to a changed timetable between Liverpool and Lidcombe only. Change trains at Lidcombe to continue your journey. On Sunday, buses replace Inner West trains between Strathfield and Ashfield. Trains continue to stop at Burwood. Trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern between: Ashfield and the City, and Leppington and Lidcombe via Regents Park You may need to change trains to continue your journey. From 5.30am to 11.30am, trains run between Leppington and the City via Regents Park. 
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: Daily from 6.30am to 12.20pm, some trains run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. Some trains start or end at Hurstville or Sutherland. You may need to change trains to continue your journey. Trains may leave from different platforms, please check indicator screens before boarding. Sunday from 1pm to 4pm, trains do not stop at Wolli Creek but make an extra stop at Arncliffe. Buses run between Sydenham, Wolli Creek and Arncliffe. Change at Arncliffe or Sydenham for a bus to Wolli Creek or change at Central for a T8 Airport train if you have luggage or accessibility needs. 
  • T5 Cumberland Line: On Sunday from 5.30am to 10am, buses replace trains between Cabramatta and Granville. Trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and the City via Regents Park, and between Richmond or Schofields and Olympic Park. You may need to change trains at Lidcombe to continue your journey towards the City. From 9.40am to 11.30am, trains run to a changed timetable between Leppington and the City via Granville. And between Schofields and Olympic Park. You may need to change trains at Granville to continue your journey. 
  • T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line: From Saturday from 5am to 9am, trains run to a changed timetable and reduced frequency, every 30 minutes. On Sunday, trains run to a changed timetable and reduced frequency, every 30 minutes. 
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line: Saturday from 5.30am to 10.30am, at Hawkesbury River and Cowan, all trains leave from platform 2. From 7am to 10.30am, trains towards Hornsby do not stop at Cowan. Buses run from Hawkesbury River to Cowan, and from Cowan to Berowra, in that direction only. If travelling to Cowan, change at Hawkesbury River for a bus.  At Cowan, catch a bus to Berowra then change for a train to continue your journey. Trains towards Gosford continue to stop at Cowan. On Sunday from 6am to 11am, at Cowan and Hawkesbury River, all trains leave from platform 1.  
  • South Coast Line: Daily from 6.30am to 12.20pm, some trains make extra stops between Sutherland and Hurstville. Sunday from 1pm to 4pm, trains do not stop at Wolli Creek but make extra stops at Arncliffe and Sydenham. Buses run between Sydenham, Wolli Creek and Arncliffe. Change at Arncliffe or Sydenham for a bus to Wolli Creek, or change at Central for a T8 Airport train if you have luggage or accessibility needs

The following route buses run towards Olympic Park:

  • Route 525 runs between Parramatta and Lidcombe. Connect with trains to continue your trip to Olympic Park. 
  • Route 526 runs from the Sydney Olympic Park Ferry Wharf to Olympic Park.
  • Route 533 runs from Sydney Olympic Park to Chatswood via Rhodes & North Ryde.

Bus Diversions

Roads will close in the Sydney Olympic Park precinct during the event for nearby Sydney Super Cup: Chelsea F.C. v Tottenham Hotspur game at Accor Stadium. While roads are closed, route 533 services will be diverting.

  • From 4.30pm on Saturday 1 August to 1am Sunday 2 August, route 533 services will be diverting via Hill Road, Pondage Link, Edwin Flack Avenue, Sarah Durack Avenue and Australia Avenue, and will miss stops on Holker Busway. Allow extra time and check signs at stops for alternate stop locations.
  • From 1.30am Saturday 1 August to 3am Sunday 2 August, route 526 services will be diverting via Edwin Flack Avenue, Sarah Durack Avenue and Australia Avenue, and will miss stops on Dawn Fraser Avenue and Park Street. Allow extra time and check signs at stops for alternate stop locations.

The closest wharf to Sydney Showground is Sydney Olympic Park Wharf. There is a connecting 526 bus to the venue or alternatively it is approximately a 40-minute walk (3.6km) from the wharf. 

F3 Parramatta River services run regularly to Olympic Park, but services are very popular and may reach capacity. Keep this in mind if you’re planning on catching an F3 Parramatta River service. Plan your trip and allow plenty of extra travel time or consider the alternative public transport options available.

F3 Parramatta River ferries may be affected by low tide between Parramatta and Rydalmere and replaced by buses. Check for updates here

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Change at Central for trains to Lidcombe then Olympic Park. 

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick Line light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford Line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Change at Central for trains to Lidcombe then Olympic Park. 

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run between Carlingford and Westmead via Parramatta CBD. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Alight at Parramatta Square and connect with a train service towards Lidcombe then Olympic Park from Parramatta Station.  

Passengers are reminded that trams can’t stop quickly or easily – so please stop, listen and look around for trams and use designated pedestrian crossings.

Traffic may be heavier than usual on roads approaching Sydney Olympic Park as attendees travel to and from the event. Travel with your group and allow extra travel time on the M4, Parramatta Road, Homebush Bay Drive and Concord Road. 

On Saturday, thousands of people will also be in attendance for the Sydney Super Cup game at Accor Stadium, so traffic may be heavier than usual.   

If you have to drive, carpool with your group pre-book your parking online ahead of time to secure a space – available until 11:59pm the night before the event unless sold out prior.

  • Dawn Fraser Avenue from Showground Road to Edwin Flack Avenue  
  • Olympic Boulevard from Herb Elliott Avenue to Kevin Coombs Avenue  
  • Grand Parade from Olympic Boulevard to Orana Parade  
  • Showground Road from Grand Parade to Dawn Fraser Avenue  
  • Murray Rose Avenue from Showground Road to Gate 15  

From 12pm Saturday 1 August to 1am Sunday 2 August   

  • Kevin Coombs Avenue between Pondage Link and Australia Avenue (eastbound)  

From 1pm Saturday 1 August to 1am Sunday 2 August   

  • Olympic Boulevard between Sarah Durack Avenue and Herb Elliott Avenue   
  • Shirley Strickland Avenue between P4 Roundabout and Rod Laver Drive.   
  • Rod Laver Drive at the rear of Tennis Centre.   

From 2pm Saturday 1 August to 1am Sunday 2 August  

  • Showground Road from Dawn Fraser Avenue to the Novotel Loading Dock.  
  • Dawn Fraser Avenue from Park Street to Showground Road.   

From 4.30pm Saturday 1 August to 1am Sunday 2 August   

  • Kevin Coombs Avenue between Pondage Link and Australia Avenue (westbound)  
  • Holker Busway from Hill Road to Australia Avenue  

From 8.50pm Saturday 1 August to 1am Sunday 2 August   

  • Edwin Flack Avenue from Pondage Link to Old Hill Link (west bound) *buses excepted  
  • Edwin Flack Avenue (northbound) from Bernie Avenue to Old Hill Link *buses excepted  
  • Murray Rose Avenue from Park Street to Australia Avenue  
  • Dawn Fraser Avenue from Park Street to Australia Avenue *buses excepted  
  • Herb Elliott Avenue at Park Street.

The nearest Taxi Rank is on Herb Elliott Avenue near the Pullman Hotel.

If you’re using taxis or rideshare, remember that roads will be closed within the precinct. Allow plenty of extra travel time due to the increased traffic expected in the precinct before and after the event.

When leaving, choose a pick-up location away from the immediate area around the Showgrounds to avoid delays.

Olympic Park car parks

Visit Sydney Olympic Park – Parking to secure your parking space ahead of the event, available until 11:59pm the night before the event unless sold out prior. A flat rate $35 parking fee will apply.  

Be aware parking will be in high demand on Saturday 1 August as 70,000 people attend a soccer match at Accor Stadium nearby. 

If you have pre-booked a space, follow the directions of staff and have your parking ticket ready to show at the car park entry. Carpool with your group and allow plenty of additional travel time. 

If you haven’t pre-booked, follow the variable message signs within Sydney Olympic Park to the best available casual parking.
