Late night services

In New South Wales, there are public transport options throughout the night and early morning. You can use the Trip Planner or a transport app to plan your late night travel.

Regional train and coach services - overnight travel

Some NSW TrainLink Regional Trains travel overnight on long distance services in NSW and interstate. You can upgrade to a First Class Sleeper on certain  services. See seating and sleepers.


  • certain bus routes operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • NightRide buses replace Sydney train services between midnight and 4:30am, stopping near stations along the train line
  • light rail services travel from Central Station to The Star and operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • some regular bus routes run extra services after midnight on weekends only
  • some Intercity train services are still in operation after midnight
  • some ferries run the last service between midnight and 1am.


All late night services in the Opal network accept Opal cards and most are wheelchair accessible.

Extra late night buses run on weekends with services around local hot spots.

NightRide buses replace the Sydney trains services between midnight and 4:30am, operating in both directions along a similar route to the train line.

These NightRide services leave the city from bus stops near Town Hall Station – except for the N100 and N20.

Trip planning

When using the Trip Planner or a transport app, the trip plan results will indicate NightRide buses with an N before the bus number. The departure point, bus stop information and stop sequence is provided in the Trip Planner results.

Most NightRide bus services are accessible but cannot take motorised scooters. Look for the accessibility symbol in the Trip Planner, in timetables and on buses.

When planning an accessible trip, check the mobility aid specifications for public transport if you are travelling in a wheelchair or with a pram.

City departure points

Check which bus stop your service leaves from when planning your trip. Most routes run hourly, except for the N100 which runs every 30 mins.

Town Hall NightRide bus stops

There are two departure points near Town Hall station:

  • Stand H – located on the northside of Park Street, between George and Pitt Street.
    • For routes: N10, N11, N30, N40, N50, N60, N61, N70, N71, N80
  • Stand K – located on the south side of Park Street between Castlereagh and Pitt streets.
    • For route: N90

Route N100 – free from Kings Cross

The N100 operates in both directions from Railway Square to Bondi Junction. It stops via Sheraton on the Park (or St James Station on the return trip), Martin Place Station, Kings Cross Station and Edgecliff Station.

It leaves every 30 minutes after midnight on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings as well as public holidays. It is free if you board at Kings Cross only.

The NightOwl and Hassle Free Nights buses operate after midnight and throughout the early hours of the morning in Newcastle on weekends.

NightOwl bus services run on Friday and Saturday nights only. They leave Newcastle and Hamilton and stop at regular bus stops to their final destination.

There are also a number of Hassle Free Nights bus stops located near popular nightspots.
