Event information

Various events will be hosted in Maitland as part of the annual Hunter Valley Steamfest. The Maitland Station precinct is the central event area, and other event precincts at the Rally Ground, Church St, Railway St and Maitland Park on Sunday. 

Motorists should expect delays on the New England Hwy, Cessnock Rd and key local roads approaching Maitland CBD as large crowds are expected.

The closest station to the Steamfest is Maitland on the NSW TrainLink Hunter Line.

Additional services will be running to help you get to and from the event:

  • From Newcastle Interchange: additional all-stops services will run to Maitland at 07:29, 08:29, 09:14, 10:29, 11:27, 12:26, 13:29, 14:29,15:29 and 16:27.
  • To Newcastle Interchange: additional all-stops services will run from Maitland at 08:30, 09:33, 10:32, 11:33, 12:32, 13:33, 14:33, 15:31, 16:29 (Saturday only), 16:31 (Sunday only) 17:37 and 18:33.
  • Hunter Line Dungog and Scone services will make additional stops at Sandgate, Hexham, Tarro, East Maitland and High Street throughout the weekend.

Note: the Maitland Station commuter car park will be closed for the event from midnight on Thursday 11 April until 09:00 on Monday 15 April.

Trackwork

Trackwork is taking place from 02:00 Saturday 13 April until 02:00 Monday 15 April and may affect how you travel to and from the event on the following lines:

  • T1 Western Line & T5 Cumberland Line: Buses replace trains between Richmond and Schofields. T1 trains run between Schofields and North Sydney, some to a changed timetable. 
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: Buses replace trains between Cronulla and Sutherland. 

Trackwork is carried out on an ongoing basis to maintain the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the Sydney Trains network. Trackwork may affect how you travel so allow plenty of extra travel time and plan ahead. For train service disruption information, check travel alerts or plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

To note: the Epping to Chatswood rail line has been temporarily closed for upgrades ahead of Sydney Metro North West services starting in mid 2019. The high-frequency bus service, Station Link, replaces trains between Epping and Chatswood. For more information on Station Link, visit transportnsw.info.

CDC Buses operate services in the Hunter Valley region. Visit Hunter Valley Buses for timetables, routes and network maps.

Newcastle Transport bus services will run to a regular weekend timetable.

Road closures will be in place from 6am until 6pm on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 April on sections of Church St, Olive St, Railway St, Station St, Allan Walsh Dr, Ballard St, Fran Dawson Rd, Steam St and Napoleon Lane. On Sunday, local roads inside Maitland Park will be closed.

The Maitland Station carpark will also be closed from midnight Thursday 11 April until 9am Monday 15 April.

Event parking will be available at the following locations:

  • St Andrews Street Car Park
  • Maitland Riverside Car Park
  • Elgin Street Car Park
  • Albion Street Car Park
  • Sempil Street Car Park
  • Maitland Park

Each car park has accessible parking available.

A drop off zone will be available during the event on Athel D’Ombrain Dr.
