Important travel advice

Ticketholders are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time.

When catching public transport, plan ahead, allow extra time and sit or stand on the green dots. You can also check real-time capacity indicators when planning your trip or boarding services.

Light rail services run regularly to Royal Randwick on the L2 Line or to Kensington on the L3 Line within short walking distance of the racecourse. Additional light rail services will run before and after the event.

Remember it’s mandatory to wear a face mask when travelling on public transport, and you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling to and from the event. Register your details via the Opal website or app ahead of time.

If you're driving or catching taxis/rideshare, travel with your group and allow extra time as traffic may be heavier than usual, there’s plenty of parking on-site at the racecourse. You can find real-time updates on traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.

Additional measures and staff will be in place around transport hubs and the racecourse to safely manage crowds arriving and leaving the event so please be patient, practise physical distancing while in queues and follow the directions of staff on site.

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Tallawong Station and Chatswood Station.

Metro services start from the early morning running every 10 minutes until late. Change at Epping for trains to Central to connect with light rail services or buses to the racecourse.

The closest station to Royal Randwick Racecourse is Central.

Change at Central for Light rail services to Royal Randwick on the L2 Line leaving from Chalmers Street. You can also catch the light rail to Kensington on the L3 Line to get within walking distance of the racecourse.

Trackwork

 

Weekend Trackwork is taking place from 2am Saturday 11 December to 2am Monday 13 December on the following lines:

  • T1 North Shore Line: On Saturday from 6pm, trains run between Lindfield and North Sydney, or Berowra and Central only. Trackwork between Central and Lidcombe may affect how you travel.
  • T1 Western Line: From 6pm Saturday, trains run between Penrith and Olympic Park only. Change at Lidcombe to continue your journey. Buses run from Lidcombe to Strathfield, and Strathfield to Central, in that direction only. Limited stop and all-stations trains continue to run from the City to Lidcombe via Strathfield, in that direction only. From 2am until 6pm trains run to a changed timetable between Penrith and the City, making extra stops at Homebush, Burwood, Croydon and Ashfield. Richmond trains run between Richmond and Olympic Park
  • T2 Inner West & South Line: On Saturday from 6pm, trains run between Leppington and Olympic Park only. Change at Lidcombe to continue your journey. Buses run from Lidcombe to Strathfield, and Strathfield to Central, in that direction only. Limited stop and all-stations trains continue to run from the City to Lidcombe via Strathfield, in that direction only. From 2am until 6pm, the all stations Homebush trains will not run. Leppington trains run between Leppington and Strathfield only, making an extra stop at Homebush.
  • T3 Bankstown Line: On Saturday from 6pm, extra trains run between Lidcombe and the City via Sydenham, to a changed timetable and stopping pattern.
  • T7 Olympic Park Line: On Saturday from 6pm, trains run to a changed timetable between Olympic Park and Lidcombe then continue to Penrith or Leppington.
  • T9 Northern Line: On Saturday from 6pm, trains run between Hornsby and Ashfield only. Buses run from Strathfield and Ashfield towards Central, in that direction only. Buses run from Strathfield and Ashfield towards Central, in that direction only. Limited stop and all-stations trains continue to run from the City to Strathfield, in that direction only. From 2am until 6pm, trains run to ai changed timetable and make extra stops at Ashfield, then all stations to Redfern.
  • Blue Mountains Line: On Saturday from 6pm, trains run between Blue Mountains Line stations and Blacktown only. Buses replace trains from Strathfield to Central, in that direction only. Limited stop trains continue to run from the City to Strathfield, in that direction only.
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line: On Saturday from 6pm, trains run to a changed timetable via the T1 NorthShore Line. Buses replace trains from Strathfield to Central, in that direction only. Limited stop trains continue to run from the City to Strathfield, in that direction only.

Trackwork is carried out on an ongoing basis to maintain the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the Sydney Trains network. A number of regular route buses travel between the City and Eastern Suburbs via Anzac Parade and Alison Road to get you to Randwick Racecourse including Routes 339, 373, 374, 376 and 377.

Catch one of the many ferry services to Circular Quay and change for a light rail service to Royal Randwick on the L2 Randwick Line or to Kensington on the L3 Kingsford Line.

L2 Randwick light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and the L3 Kingsford line services run between Circular Quay and Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly, plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Catch a light rail service to Royal Randwick on the L2 Randwick Line or Kensington on the L3 Kingsford Line. 

The Royal Randwick stop is located on Alison Road just across from the racecourse. The Kensington stop is located on Anzac Parade, a short walk from the racecourse entry on Ascot St. 

Regular services run every 5 minutes between Circular Quay and Moore Park, and every 10 minutes between Moore Park and Randwick or Juniors Kingsford. Extra services will run before and after the event.

Due to light rail vehicle repairs, buses are replacing all light rail services on the L1 Dulwich Hill Line between Central Grand Concourse and Dulwich Hill until further notice. Traffic may be heavier than usual on roads around the racecourse so if you're driving or are using taxis or rideshare, allow additional travel time.

Trams are running between the CBD and South East so pedestrians are reminded to exercise caution around the tram tracks and cross at designated pedestrian crossings.

Taxi entry to Royal Randwick Racecourse is via the Ascot Street entrance where there is a secure taxi rank for drop offs and pick-ups.

Please note that taxis, ride share and hire cars are not permitted to stop on Alison Road or Doncaster Avenue.

Use Ascot Street for rideshare drop offs and pick ups.

There is free parking in the Infield car park on-site, entry via High Street opposite UNSW.

Members Private Reserved Parking is available in the multi-deck car park, entry via Ascot Street. Patrons must display their “members car park permit” at all times.

Accessible parking: Disabled car parking is available in the Infield car park, entry via High Street opposite UNSW. A disabled parking sticker must be prominently displayed in the vehicle at all times.
