Important Travel Advice

Fans are encouraged to plan their trip and consider all the available travel options ahead of time.  

The closest public transport stop to the Oval is Leichhardt North on the L1 Dulwich Hill Line, however due to maintenance work buses replace all L1 Line services between Central Grand Concourse and Dulwich Hill. You will need to catch a replacement bus to get to Leichhardt North stop, or alternatively you can catch a train to Central and connect with regular route buses towards Leichhardt to get to the Oval.  

Remember, you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time.

If you're driving allow extra travel time for parking as traffic may be heavier than usual. You can find real-time updates on traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits, including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Tallawong Station and Chatswood Station.

Metro services start from the early morning running every 10 minutes until late.  

Change at Epping or Chatswood for a train to Central where you can connect with buses towards Leichhardt. 

Please note that due to maintenance work, L1 light rail services will not run on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July. Use alternative transport including L1 replacement bus services or regular bus services.

Trackwork

Planned weekend trackwork is taking place on Saturday 6 July on the following lines and may affect how you travel to and from the event. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner:

  • T2 inner West & leppington Line: From 6.30am to 10.30am, Inner West trains run between Ashfield and the City Circle only. Leppington trains make extra stops at Homebush and Croydon.  
  • T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line: Buses replace trains between Cronulla, Waterfall and Sydenham. Change at Sydenham for T3 trains between Sydenham and the City Circle. Trains run between Sydenham and the City Circle, and between Central and Bondi Junction, some to a changed timetable. 
  • T8 Airport & South Line: Trackwork on the T4 Illawarra and South Coast lines may affect how you travel. Change at Central for T4 Eastern Suburbs Line trains, or buses to South Coast Line stations and change at Wolli Creek for buses to T4 Illawarra Line stations. You may need to change buses to continue your journey. 
  • South Coast Line: Buses replace trains between Dapto, Port Kembla and Central. You may need to change buses to continue your journey. Trains run between Bomaderry, Kiama and Dapto, some to a changed timetable. South Coast Line trackwork buses do not stop at Wolli Creek. If you are travelling to T8 Airport & South Line stations change at Central for a train.

A number or regular bus services make stops within walking distance of Leichhardt Oval, including routes 440, 437, 445 and 470.

Catch one of the many ferry services to Circular Quay and change for a train service to Central to connect with light rail or buses towards Leichhardt.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Please note that due to maintenance work, L1 light rail services will not run on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July. Use alternative transport including L1 replacement bus services, regular bus services or walking if able to between Central Grand Concourse and Dulwich Hill, or train services between Central Station, Lewisham Station and Dulwich Hill Station. Catch a replacement bus to get to Leichhardt North stop, or alternatively you can catch a train to Central and connect with regular route buses towards Leichhardt to get to the Oval.  

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). Services run regularly, plan your trip using Trip Planner.

From Central, change to a L1 Line replacement bus service to get to Leichhardt North, which is a short walk to the oval via Mary Street. Alternatively, catch a regular route bus towards Leichhardt.

Traffic may be heavier than usual on roads approaching Leichhardt Oval including James Street, Perry Street, Balmain Road, Mary Street and Glover Street as fans make their way to the game.

A section of Mary Street may close before the game and will reopen when crowds have cleared the area. Traffic will be detoured via Chapel Street.

There are no designated taxi ranks available at Leichhardt Oval. The best location for drop off is Mary Street and for pick up is Perry Street.

Attendees are encouraged to plan to arrive early as local parking around the stadium is limited.
