Blue Mountains line disruption following freight train derailment

Services on the Blue Mountains line and Western Line are planned to recommence from Saturday 21 January 2023, weather permitting, after a freight train derailment caused significant damage to track infrastructure between Lawson and Linden in December.

The infrastructure damage has impacts for the track in both directions.

Buses continue to replace trains for passenger services between Katoomba and Springwood. Hourly train services are running in both directions between Lithgow and Katoomba and Penrith and Springwood. Customers travelling towards the city can join suburban rail services at Penrith to continue their journey.

From Monday 19 December, Dubbo XPT services will be replaced by road coaches in both directions between Sydney and Bathurst. C ustomers will join rail services from Bathurst for the remainder of their journey. Coach service from Dubbo through to Broken Hill in both directions are still in operation as the Broken Hill Xplorer is not running at present due to flood damage to the track west of Parkes.

Customers using the Blue Mountains line should expect delays or extended travel times. Customers should plan ahead and check travel alerts for the latest service details.

We thank customers for their patience while crews carry out the required repairs as safely and quickly as possible.
