Changes to Greater Newcastle bus route services

From Sunday, June 25 changes to Greater Newcastle routes 136, 140, 141, 262, 263, 259 and 264 services will take effect. The changes include timetable changes, altered route paths and new routes. A total of 506 additional weekly services will be offered.

Changes by route

Improvements to route 136 services are made as part of the Growth Services Program 2019-20.

41 additional weekly services available:

  • Weekdays: 3 new daily trips. Increased weekday peak and off peak service frequency. Earlier and later shoulder peak trips.
  • Saturday: 22 new daily trips. Increased service frequency and earlier and later services.
  • Sunday: 4 new daily trips. Earlier and later services.

Key changes:

  • Altered route path: All short working Fern Bay services extended to operate the full length of Seaside Blvd as a one way loop.
  • Improved connections with Stockton ferry services (STKN Stockton to Newcastle).
  • Adjustments to the timetable may affect the current journey times of some customers.

Improvements to route 140 services are made as part of the Growth Services Program 2019-20.

115 additional weekly services available:

  • Weekdays: 16 new daily trips. Increased weekday peak and shoulder peak services. Additional off peak service frequency on weekdays.
  • Saturday: 21 new daily trips. Additional service frequency and later services.
  • Sunday: 14 new daily trips. Additional service frequency and earlier and later services.

Adjustments to the timetable may affect the current journey times of some customers.

Key changes:

  • Altered route path to serve new development to the north-east of Raymond Terrace.
  • New route path: Holwell Cct, Dawson Rd, Kuranga Ave, Rees James Rd.
  • New bus stops to be established in the vicinity of Dawson Rd & Kuranga Av, Rees James Rd & Kuranga Av & Rees James Rd & Bellevue St.
  • Service to be withdrawn from current bus stop Bellevue St after Dawson Rd (2324139).
  • Passengers currently using the bus stop Bellevue St after Dawson Rd (2324139) will need to use one of the new or existing bus stops on route 141.

Key changes:

  • Altered route path: Swap of path in Cameron Park with route 263 to reduce delays to services due to traffic at intersections in order to offer more consistent travel times.
  • Some customers in Cameron Park will now use route 263 in lieu of route 262 from the same bus stops.

The 259 route services the suburbs of Minmi, Maryland, Wallsend, Elermore Vale, Cardiff and Glendale and connects to train services at Cardiff Station.

175 new trips per week:

  • Weekday: 28 new daily trips
  • Saturday: 23 new daily trips
  • Sunday: 12 new daily trips

New route service as part of the Growth Services Program 2019-20.

The 264 route services the suburbs of Minmi, West Wallsend, Holmesville, Cameron Park, Edgeworth, Glendale, Cardiff, Garden Suburb and Kotara and connects to train services at Cardiff Station.

175 new trips per week:

  • Weekday: 28 new daily trips
  • Saturday: 23 new daily trips
  • Sunday: 12 new daily trips
