New bus services for Tweed Valley Hospital

New and improved bus services are being introduced in the Tweed Valley region to service the new Tweed Valley Hospital when it opens on Tuesday 14 May 2024. 

From Monday 6 May, changes will be introduced to services as follows:

  • Routes 601, 603 and 609 to connect the Tweed Valley region to the new hospital.
  • Route 609 from Murwillumbah will receive an additional 10 trips each week to the new hospital. This includes an early morning and an afternoon service, catering to hospital shift times.
  • Route 600 (Banora Point to Tweed Mall, via Tweed City and the Tweed Hospital) will be extended to operate between Tweed Heads West and Coolangatta from Banora Central.
  • Route 601 will be amended to operate from Tweed Mall to the new Tweed Valley Hospital (currently West Tweed to Kingscliff TAFE) to service staff, patients and the community. Route 601 services will no longer enter the Kingscliff TAFE premises. Services will use bus stops on Cudgen Road outside the TAFE entrance.
  • Route 603 service (Pottsville to Tweed City via Hastings Point, Cabarita Beach, Tweed Valley Hospital and Chinderah) will also stop at the new bus stops on Cudgen Road, outside the hospital entrance.
  • Route 605 service (Murwillumbah to Tweed City via Tumbulgum and Lochlomond Drive) will be extended to operate between Murwillumbah and Tweed Mall via Powell Street and Keith Compton Drive. Murwillumbah residents will be able to stay on the same bus to Tweed Mall where they can connect with Queensland Translink services.
  • From 6 to 13 May, Route 600 and 601 buses will continue to deviate via Powell Street to service the existing hospital. From 14 May, services will travel via Wharf Street at Tweed Heads, and will no longer deviate via Powell Street.

There are no changes to the bus route or the timetable for 602, 604 and 606 services.

Changes by route:

  • Route 600 will be altered to continue from Tweed Mall to Tweed Heads West via Coolangatta, in place of Route 601.
  • From 6 to 13 May, Route 600 buses will temporarily continue to deviate via Powell Street to serve the existing hospital. From 14 May, services will travel direct via Wharf Street at Tweed Heads and will no longer deviate via Powell Street. 
  • From 6 May, Route 600 services will no longer deviate via Keith Compton Drive (Route 605 buses will now provide this service).
  • Buses will continue to operate at 30-minute intervals throughout most of the day.
  • Routes 600 and 601 will continue to combine to form a high frequency service between Tweed City (Minjungbal Drive) and Tweed Mall, with buses operating every 15 minutes throughout most of the day.
  • Route 601 will be altered to start and end at Tweed Mall instead of continuing to Tweed Heads West. Route 600 buses will provide service to Tweed Heads West and Coolangatta.
  • From 6 to 13 May, Route 601 buses will temporarily continue to deviate via Powell Street to serve the existing hospital. From 14 May, services will travel via Wharf St at Tweed Heads, and will no longer deviate via Powell Street. 
  • Route 601 services will be extended from Kingscliff TAFE to start and end trips at the New Tweed Valley Hospital in Cudgen Road.
  • Route 601 services past Kingscliff TAFE will no longer enter TAFE premises. Services will use bus stops in Cudgen Road outside the TAFE entrance.
  • Buses will continue to operate at 30-minute intervals throughout most of the day.
  • Routes 600 and 601 will continue to combine to form a high frequency service between Tweed City (Minjungbal Drive) and Tweed Mall, with buses operating every 15 minutes throughout most of the day.
  • There are no changes to the bus route or to the timetable, except Route 603 buses will stop at the Tweed Valley Hospital at new bus stops in Cudgen Road, outside the hospital entrance.
  • Route 605 services will be extended to operate between Murwillumbah and Tweed Mall.
  • Route 605 services will no longer travel into Tweed City Shopping Centre via Kirkwood Road but will stop outside Tweed City in Minjungbal Drive.
  • Most Route 605 services will deviate via Keith Compton Drive at Tweed Heads, providing additional services to that area.
  • An additional return trip will be provided between Tweed Heads and Murwillumbah on Saturdays to align with the Sunday timetable and provide a bus every two hours.

There are no changes to the bus route.

The trip from Bilambil Heights to Tweed City departing at 6:58am will be altered to depart 10 minutes earlier.

  • There will be an additional early morning trip from Murwillumbah to Tweed Valley Hospital/TAFE, and an additional afternoon trip from TAFE/Tweed Valley Hospital to Murwillumbah.
  • There will be new bus stops at Tweed Valley Hospital in Cudgen Road outside the hospital entrance.
  • Buses from Kingscliff TAFE will no longer enter the TAFE premises. Services will commence from bus stops in Cudgen Road outside the TAFE entrance.
