Important travel advice

With up to 3,000 cyclists expected to take part in 27km, 57km, 80km and 104km ride events, participants are encouraged to plan ahead and consider all the available travel options ahead of time. Events will start and end at Karuah Oval in Turramurra, commencing from 6.30am. 

  • Planned trackwork is taking place on Sunday 29 March that will affect your travel to the start line. 
    • T1 North Shore Line: Buses replace trains between Hornsby and Milsons Point.  
    • Metro: Buses replace metro services between Macquarie University and Victoria Cross. Services run between Tallawong and Macquarie Park, and between Victoria Cross and Sydenham only. 
  • Bikes are not permitted to be taken on-board buses including rail replacement buses.  
  • Participants can use Hornsby Station on the T9 Northern Line, (approx 5km ride to start line) or travel to Epping Station from Central and connect with metro services to Macquarie Park (approx 8km ride to start line). Metro services will operate from Tallawong to Macquarie Park as normal. 
  • You'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time. 

If you want to drive:

  • Road closures, lane closures, special event clearways and reduced speed limits will be in place along the course from 5am for the safety of participants. Traffic conditions will return to normal by 3pm. 
  • Parking is available near the start and finish line in local streets and in nearby car parks.
  • Traffic may be heavier than usual in the area while roads and lanes are closed, and speed reductions are in place for the event.

Opal

You can use an Opal card for all modes of public transport in Sydney and surrounding regions, including metro, trains, buses, ferries and light rail.

Remember to top up your Opal card before you travel to avoid waiting in line at top-up machines. You can top up your card online or at an Opal retailer.

More ways to pay

If you have a contactless-enabled American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card, or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal card readers. Available on all public transport, contactless payments are another way to pay on the Opal network. Adult Opal fare pricing applies and you will receive Opal benefits including daily and weekly fare caps.

Sydney Metro services are high-frequency, driverless trains running between Sydney’s north-west and south-west via the city. 

Trackwork 

Please note, planned trackwork is taking place on Sunday 29 March that will affect your travel: 

  • Buses replace metro services between Macquarie University and Victoria Cross.  
  • Metro services will run between Tallawong and Macquarie Park, and between Victoria Cross and Sydenham only. 
  • Buses also replace Sydney Trains T1 North Shore Line services between Hornsby and Milsons Point.

Participants travelling from the City can use train services to Epping then connect with metro services to Macquarie Park and ride the 8km (approx.) to the start line. T1 southbound train services will operate to Hornsby from Berowra and T9 services to Hornsby will continue to operate as normal. Plan ahead using the Trip Planner.

The closest station to the start line is Turramurra however trackwork is taking place on the T1 North Shore Line.

  • Participants can use Hornsby Station on the T9 Northern Line then ride approx 5km ride to the start line.
  • T1 Line train services will continue to operate southbound from Berowra to Hornsby Station.  

Trackwork

  • T1 North Shore Line: Buses replace trains between Hornsby and Milsons Point.  

Trackwork is carried out on an ongoing basis to maintain the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the Sydney Trains network. Travel on ferries with bikes is not recommended. Crews can refuse to allow a bicycle on board if there is a safety concern or not enough room for it to be safely stowed, so have an alternative transport option in mind. Visit travelling with bikes for more details.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run between Central Station (Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Planned trackwork is taking place on Sunday 29 March on the T1 North Shore Line between Hornsby and Milsons Point and on the metro between Macquarie University and Victoria Cross. Change at Central for trains to Hornsby then cycle to the start line or catch trains to Epping then change to metro for Macquarie Park and cycle to start line. 

L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford Lines

L2 Randwick Line light rail services run between Circular Quay and Randwick via Central Station (Chalmers Street) and L3 Kingsford Line services run between Circular Quay and Juniors Kingsford via Central Station (Chalmers Street). L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line

L4 Westmead and Carlingford Line light rail services run between Carlingford and Westmead via Parramatta CBD. Services run regularly from 5am to 1am daily. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner.

Planned trackwork is taking place on Sunday 29 March on the T1 North Shore Line between Hornsby and Milsons Point and on the metro between Macquarie University and Victoria Cross. Alight at Parramatta Square and connect with trains to Strathfield for connecting trains to Hornsby, and cycle to start line.

Traffic may be heavier than usual in the area while roads and lanes are closed, and speed reductions are in place for the event. Allow extra travel time if you're driving in the area and take care when sharing the road with cyclists. 

Road Closures

Road and lane closures will be in between 5am and 3pm along the event route for cyclist safety. 

  • Turramurra 
    • From 5am until 3pm, sections of Karuah Road and Turramurra Avenue will be closed. 
    • From 6.45am until 1.30pm, the right turn lane on Burns Road into Ellalong Road will be closed. 
    • From 8am until 1.45pm, the right turn lane on Bobbin Head Road into Burns Road will be closed. 
  • Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park 
    • From 6.15am to 9.15am, a section of Bobbin Head Road will be closed. 
    • From 7.30am until 12.30pm, a section of Liberator General San Martin Drive will be closed. 
  • St Ives 
    • From 6.45am until 1.30pm, a section of Warrimoo Avenue will be closed. 
    • From 6.30am until 2.30pm, westbound lane 1 of Mona Vale Road will be closed approaching Richmond Avenue. 
    • From 8am until 1.30pm, the right turn lane on Mona Vale Road into Woodbury Road will be closed. 
    • From 8.30am until 1.30pm a section of Woodbury Road will be closed. 
  • Mt Colah 
    • From 6.15am until 8.45am, north and southbound lane 1 of the Old Pacific Highway will be closed approaching Belmont Parade.  
  • Terrey Hills 
    • From 8am until 1.30pm, westbound left turn lane and lane 1 of Mona Vale Road will be closed approaching Myoora Road/Forest Way.  

Speed limit reductions will be in place between 6am and 2pm along sections of Mona Vale Road, West Head Road, Bobbin Head Road, McCarr’s Creek Road and the Old Pacific Highway.

Parking

Parking is available nearby in car parks at Turramurra Train Station and council parking lots. Limited street parking is also available near the start and finish line. Visit Ku-Ring-Gai Council or check Bobbin Head Cycle Classic website for more information.

Special Event Clearways

A special event clearway will be in effect from 7am until 1.30pm in St Ives on the eastern side of Mona Vale Road between 425 Mona Vale Road and Kitchener Street.

Clearways are strict no-parking zones for all vehicle types and apply even to local residents and TfNSW Mobility Scheme Permit holders. Check signs carefully as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies. If your vehicle is towed, you can search your vehicle registration at the Find My Car website to find its new location, or alternatively call 132 701 to speak to an operator.
